Y's Men Alert #10

Scam Emails

The Y's Men Communications Committee wants to reiterate as strongly as possible the advice we’ve given with regard to scam emails.

They often will come from someone you know.

They usually are the first in a series of email scams.

The content will be casual and short and will ask you to “do them a favor.”

The reality is that these scam emails do not come from the person you know, even though it appears so.

The advice we give is to delete these emails.

However, if you want to make absolutely sure, then call that person on the phone.

Do not respond to the email.

If you respond to the email, you will receive a follow-up with a request for gift cards for people you don’t know. Don’t be fooled by this scam.

The two red flags are “can you do me a favor” and “gift cards.”

Please read these warnings.  This is a big scam currently out there. In the meantime please be diligent in reading these alerts and be diligent in the handling of your emails.
