IAFP has three important updates for you as you start your week. Below you will find information about the following topics:

  • We encourage you to send a SpeakOut message to Congress in favor of the SUPPORT ACT
  • Information about a virtual office hour on Wednesday in regards to pediatric health care access
  • Join us in Cedar Rapids on Wednesday night for a CME member meet-up

Urge your Representative to vote in

favor of the SUPPORT Act!

The Substance Use-Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment (SUPPORT) for Patients and Communities Reauthorization Act, which includes a critical technical fix to the Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act, will come before the House of Representatives for a critical vote in the coming days.

By passing the SUPPORT Act, the House of Representatives would ensure more than 129,000 family physicians have access to federally compliant training that is appropriate for their specialty and patient populations. Moreover, this legislation will help ensure that family physicians will not be required to take time away from their practices to retake potentially duplicative or irrelevant CME courses to maintain the ability to provide timely, undisrupted treatment to their patients, including those with substance use disorder. This important legislation will need to be considered by the Senate before it becomes law.

Your lawmakers need to hear from you on this issue! Speak Out in support of this bipartisan legislation TODAY to ensure that family physicians like you can continue to provide timely, undisrupted treatment to your patients!

This upcoming session will focus on Engagement. Participants will share ideas and experiences of increasing engagement to enhance their work. Join us to learn from each other.

This project is supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of an award totaling $1,700,000 with no percentage financed with nongovernmental sources. The Iowa Academy of Family Physicians is pleased to be able to partner with the Iowa Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics to increase awareness of and access to Pediatric Mental Health Care Access (PMHCA) programs to Iowa family physicians, pediatricians and other primary care providers, and support efforts to advance the sustainability of PMHCA programs. This is made possible through a grant from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) who is partnering with the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to provide grant funding to AAFP chapters.
