BURLINGTON, IA - MARCH 20, 2020
Dear Friends of the Burlington Area YMCA,
We understand that the closure of our facility might have felt abrupt and unexpected. We are confident it was the right decision under these extraordinary circumstances because the health and well-being of you, our valued members, guests, volunteers and staff come first,
always. We are in close contact with the Des Moines County Department of Public Health and the CDC to monitor the situation and are committed to reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.
It’s more important than ever to live out our YMCA mission of serving and strengthening our communities. While we can’t serve you in person, we can become a part of Y360, a new virtual initiative led by Y’s across the country. It includes your favorite classes, our top instructors and the Y community, available directly to you in the comfort of you own home. Learn more by visiting us at
Also feel free to check out the Les Mills website for more great classes by clicking the following link:
These are both outstanding resources to utilize in order to keep your health and well-being a top priority during this difficult time.
We know you still have a lot of questions. We do too. All of us at the Y are grateful for the outpouring of support that many of you have expressed. We are committed to doing everything possible to secure the future of the YMCA, and all of its services, as these uncertain times continue. Closure for any length of time represents a significant threat to our non-profit organization.
We cannot express the potentially devastating impact that extensive cancellations could have. We know the Y is an extension of your family and we remain honored and committed to serving you, just as we have served for the last 121 years.
Here are some things we can share with you:
Those currently enrolled in the Before and After School Program will be credited toward future programming in the 2020 calendar year.
Those currently enrolled in swim and/or gymnastics lessons have two choices: you can consider your program fees a donation to the Y’s ongoing mission to serve the community or take a credit toward future programming within the 2020 calendar year.
Youth soccer as well as youth & adult volleyball seasons have been postponed until further notice.
All current Y members also have a choice. You can consider next month’s membership dues a donation to the Y. If this is your choice, THANK YOU. No actions are necessary. If you would like to do something different, we are able to assist you via email. Simply submit your hold request in writing to Blaire@burlingtony.org. A confirmation response will be issued once your hold is processed.
Whatever you choose, we thank you for your support and understanding. Please care for yourself and one another. Our community is strong, and together, we will get through this.
