Dear UMS Community,

This is the last in my series of three messages addressing the important event that is now upon us: a systemwide review by an evaluation team representing our regional accreditor, the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE).

The team will begin its individual visits with each of our universities and Law School tomorrow, and will hold its primary schedule of meetings October 3-5 at the University of Maine in Orono.

All meetings on the primary schedule will include options for in-person (Wells Conference Center) and remote participation for all invitees, including all faculty, staff, and students attending the open forums designated for them.

The open forums will be held as follows:
  • Monday, October 3 (1:00-1:45 p.m.)   Staff

  • Monday, October 3 (3:00-3:45 p.m.)   UMF and UMFK faculty

  • Monday, October 3 (4:00-4:45 p.m.)   UM, UMM, and UMA faculty

  • Monday, October 3 (5:00-5:45 p.m.)   Graduate students

  • Tuesday, October 4 (10:15-11:00 a.m.) USM, Law School, and UMPI faculty

  • Tuesday, October 4 (2:00-2:45 p.m.)   Undergraduate students

  • Wednesday, October 5 (11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.) Exit report
In addition to finding the Zoom link for the open forum relevant to you on the primary schedule, you may also have received that link from your university or Law School leaders.

As I shared in my last message, this evaluation process is intended to generate feedback that our universities, Law School, and System as a whole can use to refine our work in areas of existing strength, and to make improvements where needed. And as a reminder, the evaluation will occur against the backdrop of our unified accreditation, the form of NECHE accreditation we have held and operated within continuously since July 2020.

I encourage you to take part in this important process.

Thank you.
