Upcoming School Year Announcements
CRCSD announces the upcoming school year - beginning August 2021 - will include the return to traditional in-person learning and a remote learning option.

Two learning options for 2021-2022 school year:

1) Traditional in-person learning
  • Teacher-led instruction within the school classroom
  • Activities and sports aligned to your resident school
2) Cedar Rapids Virtual Academy (CRVA) for all K-12 grades
  • Virtual, CRCSD teacher-led instruction
  • Activities and sports aligned to your resident school

For those interested in remote learning, please visit CRVA for more information. If you are currently a remote learner, you will receive an email that provides you a virtual enrollment choice for the 2021-2022 school year. Deadline for selection of CRVA is April 23, 2021. If you’re a current in-person learner and interested in remote learning for the upcoming school year, please call 319-558-2249.

Please note that for the upcoming school year, CRCSD considers you as an in-person learner unless you are formally enrolled in CRVA.
Note From Noreen
This week’s big announcement has us celebrating the return to traditional in-person learning for the upcoming school year, while also providing families an option for year-long remote learning. If you’re excited about reinstating in-person classroom instruction and the traditions around kids in buildings--great! And, if remote learning worked well for your family this past year or you desire to try it in the coming year, we have an option for that, too.

As you can imagine, we are currently planning ahead for staffing allocations and getting that good work done now so we have clear direction moving forward. Therefore, we need you to make your family decision (if you are choosing remote learning for the 2021-2022 school year) by April 23rd. This gives us time to plan, and it gives you peace of mind for your family planning processes.

We are still navigating the elements of the pandemic, but there is a focused path ahead. And, we look forward to August 2021, which should bring more predictability for everyone. We are so proud to serve all of our families!

Sincerely,
Noreen

CRCSD Happenings
Annie Bradford Named Johnson STEAM Academy Principal

Annie Bradford has been named principal of Johnson STEAM Academy (JSA), pending board approval. She will begin her role on July 1.

Bradford will join Cedar Rapids Community School District from Starmont Community School District, where she served as the elementary principal. She previously served in CRCSD as a special education facilitator from 2013 to 2016.

“I am thrilled to be returning to a district that has continually focused on student academic achievement in addition to preparing students for future success,” says Bradford. “JSA is a special place and I am looking forward to leading and learning with the staff and students there.”

“We are so pleased to have Annie join us,” adds Eric Christenson, executive director of elementary education. “Annie brings a wealth of leadership experience that will benefit the Johnson STEAM Academy community.”
Quarterly Cuts at Franklin Middle School

“I’m speechless! It’s good and I’m feeling really confident.”
