“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart.”

-Helen Keller

VCNP president Dr. Alysia Pack represented VCNP and Virginia’s NPs at AANP’s National Conference last month.

With our background in nursing, NPs are often the heart of health care. We know we do a great job – and now it’s time to tell others about Virginia’s NPs! Do you have a professional accomplishment you want to share? A new resource you think would be helpful to your peers? A favorite mentor, preceptor or NP educator you want to recognize? Do you want to share what you love about your job or your VCNP membership?

Along the same lines, do you have a question about navigating the NP world, or are you looking for a professional resource or expert insight? No matter what’s on your mind, we want to hear from you! Send your accolades and inquiries today! We may even ask if we can feature you or your comments in future VCNP communications.

Autonomous practice update

As of July 3, there were 3,448 NPs in Va. with autonomous practice licensure. NPs with 3+ years of experience, can now apply for this licensure, thanks to HB 971! Learn more about the legislation, how it impacts your practice and how to apply here.

If you applied (or are planning to apply) with the new experience requirement, we want to hear from you! If you’re willing to be featured in future VCNP communications, please send your name, credentials, a photo (candid or professional) and 1-2 sentences about why you applied and how autonomous practice will impact your patients and your practice to staff.

Congratulations

Northern Virginia Region member and DNP student Janice Lavoie’s article “The Ethical Accordion” was published in UVA School of Nursing’s spring magazine. “Everything about playing [the accordion] followed me to nursing school and made me a better nurse.”

Tidewater Region member Deborah Quinn shared tips on protecting skin against heat flare-ups in this WAVY-TV interview.

Apply for VCNP's NP scholarship
