Thank you for quickly contacting your legislators about HB 2183. While VCNP attempted to work through the legislative process to reach a compromise on this bill, our efforts ended last evening due to some unexpected procedural issues. We are disappointed with this unprecedented outcome and are committed to working to advance future scope of practice legislation. We will continue to meet with legislators and develop plans for 2024.
It's imperative that we continue to promote NP practice and the importance of autonomous practice licensure in Virginia. Here are some ways you can help now.
-
If you’re eligible for this licensure (current requirements call for 5 or more years of clinical experience), please apply now.
- If you’re not yet eligible, be sure to get signatures and complete paperwork if you leave a job prior to submitting an application.
- Continue building relationships and educating your legislators about NP practice. This can include subscribing to emails from your legislator’s office, attending local Town Halls and events, scheduling meetings with and sending notes to your representatives, and sharing your personal stories with staff (link to staff email).
Despite this outcome, we have a lot to celebrate! Every time we asked, you stepped up. Since January 11, you contacted your legislators well over 500 times through 4 Muster campaigns, more than a dozen Lobby Days meetings, multiple subcommittee testimonials and legislative receptions, and countless personal letters, emails, meetings and phone calls.
Thank you for your efforts, and special thanks to members of our Government Relations committee, our Government Relations Committee Chair, Kim Bednar, Immediate Past President, Becky Compton, and President-Elect, Alysia Pack. We also want to thank Delegate Roxann Robinson for the work she did to get the bill introduced and for her ongoing support.
I’m proud to be part of this incredible association of NPs. Thank you for your dedication to our profession.
