"Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

VCNP’s Board of Directors recently gathered for our summer board meeting to share ideas and discuss plans for the coming year.

Your Board of Directors recently gathered for our first meeting since our amazing conference in Williamsburg. The positive energy and forward-thinking ideas coming from the committee chairs and regional leaders were so exciting – and I can’t wait to see where these trailblazers take us in the coming years!

We discussed how to use our nursing core competencies, foundational frameworks and scholarly evidence to guide leadership decisions, discover new ideas and unmet opportunities, and shine the spotlight on NPs! I’m particularly excited about the work we’re doing to connect members across the Commonwealth and develop association alliances with other professional and community organizations.

Stay tuned for details soon – and please reach out to any board member to let us know how we can continue making VCNP THE professional association for NPs in Virginia!

Looking for specialty NPs

Summer's almost here, and we want to highlight NPs who work in emergency medicine and dermatology. In honor of Pride Month, we’d also like to feature NPs whose research, practice or advocacy focus on LGBTQ+ patients.

If you’d like to be featured in future VCNP communications, please send your name, credentials, a photo (candid or professional) and 1-2 sentences about why you love what you do, why you chose your area of specialty, or for dermatology and emergency medicine NPs, your favorite summer safety tip.

Autonomous Practice Licensure update

As of May 1, there were 3,373 NPs in Virginia with autonomous practice licensure. Thanks to HB 971, NPs with 3 or more years of clinical experience will be eligible to apply after July 1. Watch for updates, and apply this summer if you’re eligible!

Mental health resources

Lynchburg Region member Dr. Rosie Taylor-Lewis collaborated with NPs across the country to develop a free library of resources for NPs to access when caring for patients with mental illness. Check out the clinical tools and educational resources below.

If you know of other mental health or practice-related resources, please share them with vcnp@vcnp.net.
