Let's Keep Working Together
Dear friends,

I have updates for you today on two very important topics in the video below.

1) COVID-19.

We had thirteen (13) new COVID-19 cases reported yesterday, June 11th.To see if this is a lasting trend, time will tell but it's a reminder to be vigilant. We know that 7 of the cases came from a backyard gathering where households mingled. We also know that as other counties have reopened, spikes have been caused largely by private gatherings. In Sacramento County, for example, a large spike was recently traced to two backyard birthday parties, a funeral and a religious gathering. Please be prudent about the activities in which you choose to host and participate.

On the good news front, I am happy to report that the Yolo Community Foundation has granted over $290,000 of grants to local nonprofits. This has been an emergency effort to help alleviate some of the economic hardship caused by COVID-19 between the County of Yolo, the cities of Woodland, Winters, Davis and West Sacramento. I am proud to sit on the steering committee for this effort and am so grateful for the sense of community and caring we have in Yolo County. More information about this effort is in this press release.

I know that COVID-19 is one of the biggest challenges we've faced together, but I also know that Yolo county is resilient and resourceful. If anyone can do an exemplary job of walking through this, I know it's YOU and our fellow community members. THANK YOU for all of the hard work you've done so far to keep each other safe.

2) Systemic Racism.

Last week I spoke with you about my unwillingness to accept the systemic racism that has been brought to light by the kiling of George Floyd and dozens of other black individuals who were engaged in everyday activities when they were killed. I told you that I am calling on my colleagues to address this issue. The Yolo County Board of Supervisors has taken my suggestion to host a series of workshops about systemic racism, social services, and law enforcement. I will provide more information about these workshops and I invite you all to attend.

Thank you for listening and have a nice weekend,
Jim Provenza
