"The trainings I received while at LTI have been instrumental to my success  as a Manager.  Through these trainings, I have strengthened my leadership skills as well as learned various ways to motivate, coach, and mentor  my employees.  As someone who has attended multiple LTI sessions (2014 & 2016), I can tell you no two are the same.  Each year, I was able to bring back new techniques  to share with my co-workers and staff.   I highly recommend anyone who is in, or aspiring to be in a leadership role to attend the Institute.  You will not be disappointed!"

Meet Dan Schmitt...
... the Founder and President of RMC Events, Inc., an event staffing services firm  providing event  security, ushers, ticket takers and sellers, parking attendants, traffic control/management personnel, and crowd  control services for large and small scale events.

Since 1999, Dan has grown his business from 8 to over 1800 staff members and from 16 events over 9,400 events throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.   A graduate of the University of Richmond, Dan completed industry internships and work experiences with the New York Yankees, Richmond Renegades hockey franchise, and Richmond Coliseum. Upon graduation, Dan worked at  the Richmond Coliseum as Marketing Assistant before taking promotions to Event Coordinator and eventually Operations Manager.

Dan states that, during these internships, he "developed an understanding for the full picture  of the industry and just how hard you have to work to be fully prepared on event day." At nearly every event, Dan believes that success is contingent upon strong integration with all parties involved including the event promoter(s), venue representatives, and local law enforcement/government officials.

Throughout his career, Dan has served on numerous state and local advisory boards, commissions and/or other association and has been instrumental in numerous  community initiatives.

RMC Event's motto is: " Success...Built Upon Good People First."

That mindset, as Schmitt explains, makes all the difference.

Join Dan at the LTI session on " Personal Branding."

Meet our 2018 LTI committee...
Featured in February:  Claire Richardson
Claire Richardson is a Recreation Manager for the City of Staunton, and although she's been with Staunton for 10 years, overall, Claire has worked in the field of recreation since she was 18 years old.

Her favorite part about her job is seeing the impact it has on the community - citizens utilizing their services, visiting their parks, and participating in their programs. A few families have even said they decided to relocate to Staunton after viewing their activity guide, which Claire claims definitely helps validate what her department does.

Claire attended LTI in 2016, and since it was such a great experience for her, she decided to join the board to help plan the 2018 Institute.  Some of her takeaways from 2016 include self-awareness and emotional intelligence in various environments and ways to plan more successful work groups.  She hopes you'll consider attending as well.
