What Obstetrician–Gynecologists Should Know About Substance Use Disorders in the Perinatal Period


Compared with White pregnant individuals, Black and Latinx individuals have lower odds of receiving treatment for any substance use disorder, and of receiving medication for OUD. This clinical expert series highlights the racial disparities in SUD treatment for pregnant people and recommendations for providing more equitable care. The series also reviews addiction medicine fundamentals, patient-centered language, and the effects of the most commonly used substances.

Recent research has shown during the first year of the pandemic, alcohol consumption increased as well as alcohol-related harms. In this research letter, mortality data was examined to assess whether alcohol-related deaths also increased during the pandemic.

Impact of Telemedicine on Retention in Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) Treatment With Buprenorphine in the Times of COVID-19 Pandemic: A Retrospective Chart Review


Barriers to medications for opioid use disorder often include limited transportation, missed hours from work, and inadequate insurance coverage which impacts treatment retention. This study found telemedicine to be an effective approach to patient retention in MOUD services.
