Energy healing is a gentle, non-invasive method to bring balance and harmony to the mind, body, emotions, and spirit. This is typically done by working on specific energy centers in the body, most commonly the chakras. Chakras have their own function and personality, and can become off balance when we are faced with trauma, stress, overwork, and unhealthy lifestyles. Techniques like Reiki, Chios, or Healing Touch involve very light or no physical contact from the practitioner to the recipient, yet often pleasant heat, movement, or other bodily sensations are felt. The practitioner has the intent to bring about the best possible outcome for the recipient.
When I was in medical school, I took the first level of Reiki training over a two- day seminar. I thoroughly enjoyed it and saw the practical application of this modality right away, using this new tool frequently throughout my day: p
erforming Reiki kicked off my morning meditation routine; I did it to my tea, meals, cats, relatives, and patients in the student clinic, even though it did not satisfy any graduation requirements.
Looking back, I went after this with such zeal because it worked and was making a big difference in my world. People would tell me they could feel immense heat radiating from my hands, and through this I began to feel stronger connections with people in my life.
My clinic time began to ramp up, not to mention that I was being exposed to other awesome energetic therapies like acupuncture, so I focused my attention there, even though Reiki was still a big part of my personal world.
Three years later, I learned a new energy healing modality called Chios. This education came with a textbook, three levels of training and attunements, homework, practicals, and exams. I studied this for nine months while continuing to use acupuncture, herbs, and other natural healing methods, and it was nice to be able to incorporate aspects of Chios energy healing with other treatments. I finished all the levels of training and am now a certified practitioner and master teacher.
I immediately saw how much stronger acupuncture treatments were with Chios incorporated. My patients knew they were experiencing something different, and we began to see remarkable results, such as decreased chronic pain, without touching the body but rather by working on chakras that were out of vibration or aura layers that were weak.
Sometimes an energy worker will see the chakras or aura, either in their mind's eye or actually in front of them. Everyone has different ways to observe the energy; I tend to feel changes in vibration with my fingers and hands, and I prefer this because it is much more neutral overall in my assessment and treatment. This allows the best possible session for the person I'm working on, without any of my own views clouding the picture.
I find Reiki and Chios to be similar and Chios to be similar to Healing Touch, which I am familiar with but not trained in. It is all the same healing energy being used and transferred, and the ability to do this
is an innate gift within everyone. However, it helps to work with someone who is specifically trained and who can use energy healing without any bias. The "lens" through which I look to assess health status has now expanded to include qi, Blood, yin and yang, chakras and the auric field. I find this all to be wonderfully effective at helping people get to the root cause of their disease.
Both naturopathic doctors and acupuncturists are trained to treat the root cause of disease, but this is often difficult to narrow down; it has been my experience that two or three factors really weave themselves together to create that root. No matter the cause of an illness, it is guaranteed that one or more chakras and the aura are involved and were likely damaged or taxed to the point of not functioning properly.
When this happens, normally someone can go on about their lives with minimal discomfort. This is because, initially, other chakras and energetic fields help the weak ones out, but if nothing is corrected, this gets more out of balance. Throughout this time period we may feel unwell, but likely all organs are functioning properly and appear structurally sound. By the time modern medicine can find the system that's not working properly, there usually has been a good deal of energetic imbalance now trickling over into hormonal imbalances, which are detectable via blood tests.
This is perhaps my favorite part of working on chakras: each of the seven bodily chakras corresponded to an endocrine gland. This directly correlates to how Chios energy healing can affect our emotional and physical health. Each chakra has a role in moving some aspect of the subtle life-force energies in the body. Chios healing balances the energetic exchanges between the chakras and also energy sent to the aura, which is then sent to the outside world. This brings healing from the inside, but also to the outside world, too. It allows divine cosmic energy to have a role in our well-being, which is truly special and something to which we all have access.
