The recent increase in incidents of violence directed toward Asian American/Pacific Islander communities has elevated awareness of the bigotry and hurt that has been a persistent part of these communities’ American experience. A diverse panel of key voices will discuss how they are leading the charge to change these patterns of discrimination through education and civic action.
Join this important conversation and help bring the Asian American/Pacific Islander experience – historic and current – to a point of focus in our schools and homes.
This event is a collaboration between St. Matthew’s Episcopal Day School and Common Ground Speaker Series with a view and commitment to taking action to help confront racial injustice.

With school at home, parents have a new window into our children’s learning and behavior and we may have observed some behaviors that make us pause. Although we know each brain is wired a little differently and that we are all unique, what differences or behaviors in our children are cause for concern and what are not?
In this conversation, which will be moderated by author Deborah Reber, Children's Health Council (CHC) experts Chris Harris MEd, Chief Education Officer at CHC, and Kendra Fraka, MSW, Social Emotional Learning Specialist at Sand Hill School, will talk about best practices for our students who think and learn differently – focusing on mental health and wellness, social-emotional learning strategies and promoting executive function skills during remote learning.
Parents and educators will learn how we can embrace our students’ differences – including strengths and challenges – and provide them the support they need to thrive and be successful, even in our current circumstances.
