Regional Town Halls on the Arts
The VCA is coming to a town near you, having kicked off Town Halls in Emory, Lynchburg and Martinsville over the past two weeks. Virginia Commission for the Arts is engaging in Strategic Planning for a plan that will guide the agency from 2021 – 2024. As part of this process, we want to hear from stakeholders across the Commonwealth, representing a range of sectors within and outside of the arts.

These stakeholders may represent (but not be limited to): arts and cultural organizations, individual artists, local government, economic development, businesses, corporations, chambers of commerce, school systems, higher education institutions, healthcare, social service organizations, military and veterans organizations/communities, foundations (private/corporate) and individual citizens.

Artist Fellowship (Crafts) Applications Due October 1
In July, Virginia Commission for the Arts announced the return of Artist Fellowships for FY20, in the discipline of crafts . Four artists will be considered for Fellowships of $3,500 each, recognizing the creativity of Virginia artists and their pursuit of artistic excellence. Presenter Touring Assistance Still Available
The Virginia Commission for the Arts’ Performing Arts Touring Assistance program is designed to ensure that all Virginians have the ability to enjoy high quality performances by our state’s finest touring artists. The performers listed in the VCA Performing Arts Tour Directory represent a wide range of disciplines and have been selected by the Commission on the basis of artistic quality, prudent management, and the ability to provide inspiring, entertaining and educational programs for the citizens of Virginia.

Who Can Apply?
We are pleased to provide this service to any non-profit Virginia organization. Arts organizations, theatres, Pre K-12 schools, colleges and universities, libraries, parks and recreation departments, hospitals, nursing homes, service organizations, and units of local government are all examples of eligible non-profit presenters that may apply.

Amount of Assistance
The Commission will fund up to 50 percent of the artist’s fee for any touring program listed in the 2019-2020 Performing Arts Tour Directory, subject to the overall limit for each touring artist/ensemble.  Please note : Waitlist funds for FY19 will be subject to funds available.

Online Application Deadline
All performances must take place in Virginia between July 1, 2019 and June 15, 2020. Applicants wishing to present artists between June 16-30, 2020, must apply in the next fiscal year. Touring assistance may not be used for fund-raising events. Presenters (sponsors) should apply online between March 1, 2019, and December 1, 2019. Online applications (including signed contracts) must be received by the Commission at least four weeks prior to the scheduled event.
