Hello and welcome to 2021.
Like you, I'm eager, anxious, and just trying to block the noise and keep building. OC tech and biotech had a banner 2020, all things considered. Between tech gaining from rapid digitization and biotech continuing to be hot both for Covid and in every other area, OC companies raised close to $1.5B in equity funding.
What hurt were our small businesses. It's truly sad how hard it has been on our local small businesses, with some estimates saying that over 30% will never come back after already having had to shut down. Thank you all for helping lean in and help where we can - but we need to do more in 2021. From charitable contributions, shopping local, encouraging new founders to take the leap, building new tools to help those in need, and sharing knowledge on how to sustainably build community, there's a lot going on that's both growing our community and lifting people up. Let's keep that spirit up in 2021.
Cheers,
Neal
