Mental Health Awareness Month
Studies show that domestic violence can cause physical and emotional harm. It is now generally recognized that experiencing domestic violence and abuse can cause mental health problems, including anxiety and depression.

For our clients and most victims of domestic violence, mental health care is an essential part of the journey to recovery, self-sufficiency, and safety.

Laurel House provides individual counseling services to anyone 14 and older who is experiencing, or has experienced, domestic abuse, as well as minors 14 and older affected by witnessing domestic abuse in their homes.

We also offer support groups, where participants can meet other survivors who have been impacted by domestic abuse. Groups learn about the dynamics of abuse and trauma, build trusting relationships, and connect with others in a support group facilitated by a counseling professional.

It is not necessary to be receiving individual counseling from Laurel House to participate in our groups. However, a meeting with a counselor beforehand is required.

Currently, all our individual and support group sessions are virtual.

To make an appointment, or for more information about counseling services, please send an email to info@laurel-house.org or contact the Counseling Department via phone or text at (215) 915-5125 or (215) 205-5311.

Taking care of our mental health is as normal as eating healthy, exercising, or even saving for the future. What are you doing to protect your mental health?

We Need Gift Cards!
Recently, Dawn* came into our shelter after fleeing from her abusive husband. She and her children had been running from him for the past 4 years. The family arrived at the shelter with only clothes and a few other items they were able to retrieve from their home earlier that day.

With gift cards, we were able to assist Dawn with filling up her tank and buying essential items such as food. After she got to her new home, she let us know that she arrived safely, was grateful for our services, and looked forward to her new chapter.

Gift cards are an empowering means of support for victims of domestic violence, allowing them to shop for the things they need most for themselves and their children.

Would you consider making a donation of either VISA, Walmart, Royal Farms, or Uber gift cards?

Gift cards can be sent to: Laurel House, P.O. Box 764, Norristown, PA 19404

D.A.R.T is looking for volunteers!
Our Domestic Abuse Response Team (D.A.R.T) is looking for volunteers!

D.A.R.T advocates are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They partner with local police departments and health care professionals by responding to the scene of an incident in which a domestic abuse victim is in crisis. This immediate response includes: crisis counseling, safety planning, resource referrals, assistance with the Protection from Abuse Order process, and follow-up services.
In addition to crisis response, D.A.R.T Advocates are available to provide comprehensive domestic violence training to local police departments, the District Attorney’s office, and other service providers.

For more information about DART, or to schedule a training, please contact Tara Willis, D.A.R.T Manager, via email or at 610-277-1860 ext. 120.

Walk-A-Mile 2022
Laurel House will be having our next Walk-A-Mile in 2022!

Walk-A-Mile In Her Shoes is an event where men walk a mile in high heels to confront and combat gender stereotypes. As the saying goes, "you can't understand a person's experience until you've walked a mile in their shoes."

Past participants can still help Laurel House in other ways, from our Fun Run in June to volunteer opportunities! Or, you can get your community involved with community fundraisers, gift card drives, Facebook fundraisers, and more.

Stay tuned to our website for updates!
