November 2015

Dear Daniels Customer

This Just In...
Is the glass half full, or half empty?
Isn't that really the whole question with November?

Will we cling to those bracing autumn days of blue skies and crisp breezes filled with rustling (and, oh how they are missed, burning) leaves. Or will we get unrelenting gray, wet, sleetish days that require layers of clothes and the recognition that our feet will be wet until April? OK, fine, there are those who see those very same days as harbingers of skiing and snowshoeing. Fine. Some of us might suggest moving to Vermont, but we wouldn't consider being so mean on a glorious day like this.

Hope you enjoy whichever November arrives...and this issue of "This just in..."

Ships, Clocks & Stars:
 The Quest For Longitude

Connecticut's amazing Mystic Seaport, a true maritime museum, has an extraordinary exhibit you have to experience: The Quest For Longitude.
" Where am I?"
Sometimes, that seemingly simple question can be a tough one to answer. Sure, all those map and GPS apps we have now can pretty much nail down location. But what about years ago out on the open sea, floating between continents with water, water everywhere? For centuries, the only answer sailors had was, "Who knows exactly?"
The fear and helplessness sailors surely felt added to their trials and stress out at sea. Mystic Seaport's new exhibit " Ships, Clocks & Stars: The Quest For Longitude" tells the extraordinary story of the race to determine longitude at sea and how one of the greatest technical challenges of the 18th century was eventually solved by the dedicated efforts of astronomers, physicists, clockmakers, sailors, and many others.
Seriously, this is a good one. Don't miss it.

The Dry Season

Oh, sure, it's going to be a wet winter. But we're talking about - inside.

Have you ever noticed that once the calendar flips to November that it gets dry in the house? You reach over to give your significant other a smooch and you're electrified by the results?

That suggests you need some humidity in the house. One great way to get it is with an Aprilaire whole-home system from Daniels Energy. From adding humidity to your home, to air purification (helps fights allergies) to improving air freshness, Aprilaire (and Daniels) have the answer.

A Few Words For Our Drivers

Daniels Propane heat service ct
They said that Sammy Davis Jr. was the hardest-working man in show business. Yeah, but they never met our delivery drivers. From the moment they take to the road in September, through the coldest, bitterest, snowiest, nastiest, frigidist (is that a word? If not, it should be) days all the way through to April - our drivers work harder than Sammy ever did in Vegas!

They schlep the oil or propane hose to your house - no matter the weather and no matter where the nozzle is. So...we'd like to ask that you lighten their burden this winter. Please make sure that the route to your fill pipe or tank is clear. That's really important, especially after a snow or ice event. Carve that path. Just think, he's probably doing 30-35 deliveries every day!

More importantly, please make sure that they can get into your driveway - and OUT! No one - not you, not Daniels and most assuredly not your Daniels driver - wants to have to get towed out of an ice covered driveway. So when you're clearing the snow ask yourself, "could I back up a 3500 gallon oil truck into this driveway?" Our guys will be most appreciative.

Five Ways To Stay Warm
gas heat conversion ct
We love the simple things in life. Here are some of the easy, simple things you can do to stay warm this winter.
energy saving tips in Connecticut

Towel warming racks - ubiquitous in Europe, they are easy to mount to the wall or tucked in a corner. They range in price from $100 to $500 but cost only .50c for 24 hours of use. Plus there's nothing like a nice warm towel when you get out of the shower.

Unblock your vents  - way too simple? Move the furniture so that you get that warm air moving. Have you any idea how many times we've found the cat hogging the heating vent. Sure she's happy, but you have to ask her to share.

The ceiling fan goes both ways. It plays offense and defense - just switch the setting to spin the blades clockwise so you push the warm air (which has risen) down from the ceiling where it does no one any good - right to where you live or sleep.

Make a chicken. Bake it in the oven. Enjoy the meal - and leave the oven door open while it cools - so that the heat warms your kitchen while you're enjoying dinner!

Socks. Sorry, but it's true. If you wear nice fuzzy, warm socks, your feet won't get cold and you will feel so much warmer. Sorta like wearing ear muffs when you go out. Ever notice that when you're head is covered you don't feel the cold as much.

Bonus! Leave the curtains open. Find out where the sun shines in your home. When it's streaming in - open those curtains and let the warm air flood the house. Close them when the sun leaves and you will be ahead of the game.

LET'S GET TOASTY!
Daniels oil to gas heat offer

You know the cold is coming. It's inevitable. This is Connecticut. It's New England. Even with global warming - it's going to be cold this winter. For example the Empire Flint Hill Vent Free Ceramic Log set features hand-painted ceramic fiber logs and are available for either propane or natural gas. They are ideal for existing fireplaces and fireboxes! They will warm both your heart - and your room.
