Exhibition | Regular City: Construction of Ideas Past and Future

This exhibition is founded upon material from the upcoming publication Urban Grids: Handbook for Regular City Design (ORO Editions, 2019), written by Joan Busquets, Dingliang Yang, and Michael Keller. It is the result of an eight-year research project undertaken at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design on regularity in city design, with a particular emphasis on the latent capacities and projective potentials of the urban grid. Research into existing cities and projects is revealing new emerging conditions for the urban grid, presented here as possible paradigms for the city of the future.

A reception and exhibition viewing open to current Cooper Union students, faculty, and staff will take place from 7:30-9pm following Joan Busquets' public  lecture in the Frederick P. Rose Auditorium on Thursday, February 7, 2019.
Visiting Lecture | Manuelle Gautrand: Beyond the Program

Refusing to lock in an architectural style or type of program, Manuelle Gautrand claims "the luxury of being unaccustomed" in her architectural production and seeks to re-enchant our environment. Since its creation in 1991, MANUELLE GAUTRAND ARCHITECTURE has carried out numerous buildings for large public and private clients, in France and abroad, in fields as diverse as cultural facilities, offices, housing, hotels, retails and leisure facilities. Some famous projects are the "Gaité Lyrique" former theater transformation in Paris, the "LaM" Museum of Modern and Oustider Art in Lille, the "Cité des Affaires" in Saint-Etienne. The agency is currently working on major projects in Stockholm, in Sydney district - Parramatta, in Amsterdam, etc.

This event is open to current Cooper Union students, faculty, and staff.
Exhibition | Drawing Codes: Experimental Protocols of Architectural Representation, Volume II

Curated by Andrew Kudless and Adam Marcus

Emerging technologies of design and production have opened up new ways to engage with traditional practices of architectural drawing. This exhibition, the second volume in a series organized by the CCA Digital Craft Lab, features experimental drawings by architects who explore the impact of new technologies on the relationship between code and drawing: how rules and constraints inform the ways we document, analyze, represent, and design the built environment.

Gallery Hours
Tuesday - Friday 2PM to 7PM
Saturday and Sunday 12Noon to 7PM

Presented by The Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture of The Cooper Union and California College of the Arts / Digital Craft Lab.
