IET convocation for Fall 2022 was held on August 18th at the future site of the NOVA Data Center Operations Training Facility. Plans for the center were unveiled, new faculty introduced, and program plans presented for both IET and NOVA SySTEMic. Apply for a Paid SySTEMic Fellowship

Do you want to strengthen your STEM knowledge and develop leadership and professional skills? Apply for the NOVA SySTEMic Fellowship, which is a 9-month paid program for professional educators, college students, and high school students. Fellows choose from three tracks: Fabrication, Robotics, or Microelectronics. Training dates Sept 17 & Oct 1. Applications due Sept 6.

Program Requirements:

  • (2) Fall and (3) Spring in-person instructional/support days
  • Monthly virtual meetings
  • 2 hours per week (average) for asynchronous project development & training (depending on track)

AFCOM Interns Ready to Pursue Data Center Opportunities

This year AFCOM increased its support to $20,000 for course scholarships!

For the second year in a row AFCOM Potomac Chapter, supported by NOVA through the Go VA DEEP IET grant, put students through a 10-week summer internship program. VMEC Summer Scholar Program at Fab Lab

Dr. Chad Knights, VP of IET and College Computing, discusses a microelectronics poster project with a presenting VMEC scholar.

After weeks of hands-on research in microelectronics, university interns presented on Aug 8 at the NOVA Fab Lab as part of the VMEC Summer Scholar Program, preparing them for in-demand technology job opportunities. 


The Virginia Microelectronics Consortium (known as VMEC) facilitates university-industry partnerships that can address the educational, training and research needs of the Commonwealth’s microelectronics industry and contribute to the development of Virginia as a location of choice for the microelectronics industry.


The Consortium is designed to utilize the complementary skills, expertise, and facilities of the Commonwealth’s universities, community colleges, major labs, and growing microelectronics industries to deliver seamless, flexible, high-quality instructional training and research programs in microelectronics and semiconductor technology with a strong fabrication emphasis.
