KPNCH-Veterans Theater

Concert for a Cause

Monday October 14th, 2024

Our Kings Point employees work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep this community the vibrant and active adult paradise we all love to call home. From the team at FirstService to the Master Association and Vesta employees, they all play a vital role in ensuring that everything runs smoothly—from maintaining our beautiful clubhouses and infrastructure to serving up delicious meals and planning exciting activities.

Their dedication often goes unnoticed, but it’s their hard work that keeps our amenities and infrastructure in top shape and makes sure that Kings Point remains a wonderful place to live. Now, we have a chance to show them just how much we value their efforts.

Join us at the upcoming concert, where donations will be collected to fund an Employee Appreciation Luncheon in honor of these incredible individuals. It’s a small way to give back for everything they do day in and day out to enhance our community.

Let’s come together to celebrate and support the people who make Kings Point such a great place to live!

September Volunteer of the Month

Diane Cantwell

Diane Cantwell, a retired third grade teacher from the Cleveland, Ohio area, has spent a lifetime devoted to service to others.

Recently selected as the Kings Point Volunteer of the Month, Diane has continued that dedication in her retirement here in Sun City Center. She has become involved with others in many projects.

She has served for three years as the Team Leader for the Health Ministry Team at the United Methodist Church of Sun City Center. Other church activities have included serving on the Hospitality Team preparing and serving meals and working the Coffee Bar on Sunday mornings. For several years she has taught Vacation Bible School and served as a mentor for teens ready to join the church. She really enjoys co-chairing the church Food Pantry to help meet the nutritional needs of those in the community. Recently she has become involved with Inspira, a new 501-c-3 organization that works with children in need of socialization and language skills.

For two years she co-chaired the Empty Bowl project, a wide-ranging volunteer effort that raised funds for teens to attend summer camp, the food pantry, Samaritan Services, and Breakaway scholarships.

In her spare time she assists with the distribution of American flags on national holidays and occasionally delivers Meals on Wheels. She helps as needed for the activities of the Kings Point Michigan Club.

Currently, she is spending three hours a week reading with a friend who is struggling from a stroke.

You just might see her and her friends walking the streets of Kings Point as part of her fitness program. She participates in daily exercise and water classes.

She has always enjoyed being busy and now she is making the most of her time helping others.

Hillsborough County Adult Day Service Recognizes National Adult Day Services Week Sept. 15-21.

Hillsborough County, Fla. (Sept. 12, 2024) - Hillsborough County Adult Day Service is celebrating National Adult Day Services Week from Sept. 15 through Sept. 21. Refreshments will be provided.

What is Hillsborough County Adult Day Service?

•Hillsborough County Adult Day Service Centers are for adults age 60+. Prior to enrollment, potential clients are assessed to ensure they are appropriate for Adult Day Care and do not require services outside the scope of the interdisciplinary team.

•There are no income restrictions to attend Adult Day Care. Services are made possible through private pay or a combination of state and federal revenue grants that may require a copayment.

•The centers' interdisciplinary teams of professionals (including nurses, case managers, CNAs, recreational aides, and supervisors) engage clients in activities such as nutrition and wellness education sessions, monthly vital checks, therapeutic exercise groups, sensory awareness activities, crocheting, arts and crafts, reality orientation and reminiscing groups, and social games such as bingo and dominos.

•Caregiver support services are included within Adult Day Care Center initiatives. These supportive services include monthly caregiver support groups, an annual health fair, an annual caregivers' workshop, fall-prevention programs, ongoing Alzheimer's disease trainings, and referrals to community agencies like Alzheimer's Association and USF Memory Disorder Clinic.

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

A big thank you to Vesta's Security team and the Master Association's irrigation techs for their quick action in handling an unexpected visitor—an 8-foot alligator that had taken up residence near one of the garages in Grantham. The two teams worked seamlessly together to keep residents at a safe distance until Florida Fish and Wildlife (FWC) arrived on the scene.

It was a great example of collaboration between our security personnel and irrigation techs to protect the community. The Master Association notified FWC, and within 30 minutes, an officer was on-site. A special thank you goes out to our irrigation tech, Bleu Batres, who went above and beyond by assisting the FWC officer in safely containing the gator and helping to get him onto the truck.

According to residents, this alligator had been a long-time resident of the Grantham pond. But don’t worry—he was safely handed over to our permitted alligator trapper and transported to a gator farm, where he'll live out his days well-fed and safe.

If you spot a nuisance alligator during business hours, please contact the Master Association at 813-812-7559. For after-hours concerns, reach out to Security at 813-634-2063. Remember, it’s important not to approach or gather near a gator, as they are wild and dangerous. Exercise caution and give them space so they can move on safely.

Active Life Games for Ages 50+

Registration is now open for residents ages 50+ to participate in the annual Tampa Bay Active Life Games, a vibrant celebration of health, fitness, and camaraderie, to be held Sept. 30 to Oct. 11 at locations throughout the county. Whether you're a seasoned athlete or trying out a new sport, there is something for everyone, including bowling, pickleball, table tennis, and more. Single-day entry is $25, multiday entry is $30, and the fee for golf is $30.
