Pomegranate Pulled Pork

The pomegranate's history is as mysterious as the fruit itself - but its health benefits are clear!

First cultivated around 2500 B.C., the fruit became a symbol of fertility and prosperity.

While its exact origins are still a bit of a mystery, there's no denying its health-promoting properties.

❤️ Pomegranates are a good source of fiber, vitamins C and K, and folic acid.

❤️ They also contain polyphenols, which are compounds that have been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects.

❤️ Pomegranate juice has been shown to lower blood pressure in people with hypertension. It also seems to improve cholesterol levels by reducing LDL ("bad") cholesterol and increasing HDL ("good") cholesterol.

Grocery stores are making it easier to enjoy the edible seeds, called arils, by offering pre-harvested containers. But if you're up for it, try removing the juicy little gems yourself using our favorite technique:

1) Cut off the crown end of the pomegranate with a sharp knife - similar to how you would carve the top of a pumpkin. Remove top.

2) Look for the white veins and score the fruit along its natural divisions.

3) Fill a large bowl with cold water and submerge the pomegranate breaking the pieces you scored apart.

4) Gently loosen the arils with your fingers and allow them to fall into the bowl of water. The arils will sink to the bottom while the white membrane floats to the top. Skim off any membrane pieces floating on top of the water.

5) Drain and enjoy!

Understanding Stress and Adrenal Fatigue

Stress is an unavoidable part of life, and we all experience it at some point. In today's fast-paced world, we often juggle multiple responsibilities and handle demanding schedules. Stress affects us mentally and physically, but its impact on our health is often underestimated.

The Anatomy of Stress

Picture this: You're walking down the street, and suddenly, a car swerves to avoid hitting you. Your heart races, you start sweating, and your body goes into a heightened state of alert. What's happening internally? It begins with a pair of glands above your kidneys known as the adrenals. These glands release adrenaline when your brain perceives a stressful situation. Adrenaline increases your heart rate and blood pressure, giving you the energy and focus to respond to the threat.

But that's not all. Stress also triggers the release of cortisol, a hormone that raises blood glucose levels. This surge in cortisol helps provide extra energy to deal with the stressor. While short bursts of cortisol are helpful in survival and can even aid in fat loss, problems arise when cortisol remains elevated for extended periods. Chronic, low-level stress can lead to physical problems and disrupt your body's balance.

Symptoms of High Cortisol:

Increased blood sugar

High blood pressure

Insomnia

Hypothyroidism

Poor digestion

Decreased immune function

Constipation

Mood swings

It's essential to be aware of the signs of high cortisol levels, which can manifest as difficulty falling asleep, frequent illness, mood swings, and more. These symptoms can escalate if left unaddressed, potentially leading to adrenal fatigue.

Stress is inevitable, but it's crucial to understand its impact on our bodies and health. By recognizing the signs of stress and its various forms, you can take steps to manage and reduce its effects. Prioritize relaxation, laughter, sleep, and a balanced lifestyle to control stress.

Safe Hormones

Smart Women

by Dr. Lindsey Berkson

Hormones are involved in a number of key bodily processes related to our health.

They exist in a delicate balance, with each hormone playing a specific role in the body. When hormone balance is disrupted, many aspects of health, such as libido, energy, metabolism, mood, sleep, and digestion, may become compromised.

Hormone imbalances can be caused by many factors, including stress, diet, medications, environmental toxins, poor sleep, and metabolism.

As a Hormone Health Coach I can help you find Hormone Balance!
