New CEO Jen Faust Celebrates National Mentoring Month

This month we are thrilled to celebrate National Mentoring Month with a special blog post written by our new CEO Jen Faust. At Girls Inc., we understand that positive mentorship from our staff and volunteers is a critical factor in helping girls achieve their goals. Girls who have these long-lasting, trusting relationships are more likely than their peers to have positive relationships with adults and see them as allies.

Hear from Jen why the value of mentoring relationships is especially important now for our teens' growth and development as they explore education and career paths through our new virtual Teen Mentorship Program.

After 13 years serving on our Board of Directors, Christi Sulzbach has left the Board. We are so grateful for her commitment to the youth and teens of the community and to Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara all these years. We wish her all the best for what comes next.

Paul Portney

As we welcome 2022, we also welcome our new Chair of the Board of Directors, Paul Portney. After 2 years on our Board, Paul's commitment to Girls Inc. continues to grow as he steps into this new leadership position. We look forward to Paul's new perspective and enthusiasm to further our mission.

TK - 6th GRADE:

To kick off our STEM month, our youth learned about Florence Bascom, the first female geologist in America! Using pudding (bottom layer), Oreos (top layer), and gummy worms, the youth created layers of soil that they were able to enjoy afterwards!

The Teen Center finally has a new kitchen for our teens to use! We are so thankful to the 10 donors who helped us fund this project over the summer. Our teens can't wait to learn about proper nutrition through hands on learning and get creative with their own recipes.

Our end of year Wish Book campaign had great success! We set an ambitious goal to grant $75,000 of wishes this holiday season. Because of YOU, our end of year campaign has granted 89 wishes, totaling $127,881!

From all the youth and staff at Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara, thank you. These funds support our programs, needed upgrades, financial assistance and will help ensure that 2022 is successful.

Congratulations Brenda!
