"General Trefry was a legend in the U.S. Army. Born in 1924, he served in World War II as an enlisted Soldier and, after graduating from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, served as a Field Artillery officer in Germany and Vietnam, where he commanded an artillery battalion. He led the Joint U.S. Military Advisory Group in Laos and was later the Defense Attaché to that country.
The Lieutenant General served in numerous positions on the Army Staff and as the Inspector General of the Army for six years. After retiring in 1983, General Trefry served as the Director of the White House Military Office and as the Military Assistant to President George H.W. Bush. In 1995, he founded the Army Force Management School. General Trefry was an expert on the Army as a profession and on the Army’s leadership, management, and budget systems. In 2009, the Army created and named a Lifetime of Service Award in honor of General Trefry; he was the inaugural recipient."(Quote: The Bugle)
Americans in Wartime thanks LTG Trefry for his service to the museum, but most of all to our country. He was such an asset to the Army and certainly left behind a legacy.
