The Bi-Weekly Briefing

St. Patrick's Day Celebrations!🇮🇪☘️

We had great craic at the Dubliner leading up to St. Paddy's Day. From guest speakers, Irish step dancers, to live music and a classic Irish breakfast, spending the morning at this beloved Boston bar was a great way to kickoff a weekend of excitement! Thank you to the musicians and dancers for the lovely entertainment.

Irish American Partnership Breakfast

Honored to attend the annual Irish American Partnership St. Patrick's Day breakfast at the Intercontinental Boston. Speakers included Irish politician Paul Mcaullife and Professor Glenn Patterson, the director of The Seamus Heaney Centre at Queen's. The breakfast, which raises money for schools in Ireland, was fully packed! I loved getting to speak with colleagues, veterans, and other city leaders as we came together for this day of celebration.

St. Patrick's Day Breakfast

Thank you Senator Nick Collins for hosting the St. Patrick's Day Breakfast at Local 7 Ironworkers. Great music and compankind of funny jokes.

St. Patrick's Day Parade

Loved seeing Ambassador Flynn, Mrs. Flynn, Rev. Casey and the four Flynn sisters along the parade route.

Christian had a great time watching the parade turn onto P Street this year!

Congratulations to Geg Lally, the Mayor of South Boston! Greg raised the most money of any Mayor, raising more than 40K for the parade!

Last but not least, to finish off the St. Paddy's activities, I attended Boston's grand finale- the Saint Patrick's Day parade! I loved seeing both familiar and new faces as I walked the route. Thank you to the Boston Police, EMS and Fire Departments for ensuring the parade went safely and smoothly. Can't wait for next year, Southie!

On January 25th, I filed a hearing order to address the results of last year's youth summer job programs, which had many unfilled positions. The hearing will take place on this Monday at 10am in the City Council Chambers located on the 5th floor of City Hall. All are welcome to come provide testimony, or to watch!

Visits in City Hall

Irish Flag Raising

I filed a hearing order to recognize March as Irish-American Heritage Month in Boston. In addition to the order passing unanimously on the council floor, we had a fantastic turnout at the Irish flag raising on City Hall Plaza, which took place on St. Patrick's Day. My colleagues Councilor Baker, Breadon, Bok, Flaherty, President Flynn and State Auditor DiZoglio joined me to speak on this special occasion following a prayer by Father John Currie. I was honored to have Irish politician and former Mayor of Dublin Paul McAuliffe, the Consul General of Ireland, Laoise Moore, Dublin City Councillor Briege Mac Oscar, and former City Councilor Jerry McDermott all join me in reflecting on the history and accomplishments of Irish immigrants in Boston. Shoutout to the Eliot School singers and Reggie Colimon from Property Management for helping run the event!

A wonderful song and dance performance from students at the Eliot School.

Following the flag raising ceremony, the attendees came to the Piemonte room to enjoy some snacks, homemade Irish bread (thank's Christine from Central Staff, it was a hit!) and discuss all of the upcoming St. Paddy's events for the weekend. Thank you to Jim Leahy of the Greater Boston Firefighters Pipes and Drums for accompanying the flag raising with music on the bagpipes. It was a fantastic addition to the event.

St. Mary's Childcare Center Ribbon Cutting

I was thrilled to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Carolyn Lynch Children's Center in St. Mary's shelter program. Thanks to the Lynch Foundation for providing a $1 million grant, St. Mary's has a state-of-the-art education center that can accommodate 100 kids, allowing mothers to have time to work towards their own goals and desires. This partnership makes me believe in Boston's ability to reduce and prevent homelessness. There is still a long way to go, but St. Mary's is leading Boston in the right direction. A big thank you to all of those who contributed to this monumental moment.

All smiles heading to City Hall daycare.

From Cleary Square to Lower Allston, mom-and-pop cafes and small shops are what make our neighborhoods special. They provide jobs, a path to the American Dream for small owners, and they provide the spice and flavor to our unique, diverse neighborhoods.

Thank You First Responders

Back in 1776, the British forces withdrew from their siege of Boston after American colonists fired cannons from Dorchester Heights. Centuries later, Bostonians like myself, colleagues, and veterans walk the very same route that the troops did all of those years ago in order to recognize and honor the history of Evacuation Day.

I always feel honored when I see Tuskegee Airman 'Woody' Woodhouse at celebrations across the City!

Thank you to the South Boston Citizens' Association for all you do during the month of March, and all year round!
