Sawyer Lee Updike

March 12, 2005 - January 16, 2024


Sawyer Lee Updike, born in Curepipe, Mauritius (Africa), on March 12, 2005, left this world on January 16, 2024.


He was a graduate of Dawson High School, Class of 2023, and a Freshman at the University of Texas at Austin, pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering.


Sawyer, known for his infectious smile, stood tall at 6'6". His presence was not just defined by his height, but by the warmth that emanated from his heart. Sawyer's friends and family cherished the moments he made them laugh and found comfort in the unspoken thoughts that reflected in his expressive face.


A proud member of the Dawson Eagles, Sawyer wore the number 85 as an award-winning football player during his high school years. He also showcased his athletic prowess as a

baseball player and an avid bass fisherman with the Dawson Anglers.


Beyond the sports field and academic pursuits, Sawyer was an active member of Texas Sigma Chi fraternity at the University of Texas. He contributed his talents to the intramural football team and showcased his skill as a member of the University

of Texas Trap and Skeet Competition Team.


Sawyer's passions were vast, from the thrill of the hunt to the serenity of fishing. A true outdoorsman, he found joy in cooking the bounties of his hunting and fishing expeditions, sharing his culinary creations with those around him.


While Sawyer didn't speak much, his thoughts resonated through his actions and, most notably, his unforgettable smile. He was loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing

him.


Sawyer Lee Updike is survived by his great-grandmother, Wilma Roberts, his grandparents, Thomas (Dick) Roberts, Kathy Roberts, Lynda T. Updike, his brother, Michael (Hart) Updike, his mother, Sheri Roberts-Updike, and his father, Lee (LJ) Updike. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his grandfathers, Tommy L. Roberts and Glenn Updike.


A Celebration of Life will be held on February 3rd at 1 pm at New Hope Church 288 Campus, located at 3640 Country Road 58, Manvel, TX 77578.


In lieu of flowers, Sawyer's father, LJ, kindly requests donations to the Food Ministry at Grace Episcopal Church.
