MARCH CELEBRATIONS

On Saturday, we celebrated Nowruz with song and dance for the whole community.


In March, we honor Women’s History Month, Nowruz, Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, International Transgender Day of Visibility, and more! Keep reading to discover all the exciting events and services we have at RCPL this month.


Nowruz, Persian New Year, welcomes the arrival of spring, celebrating renewal, togetherness and joy. If you missed our Saturday events, there is still time to join us on March 8 at 11am for Kid Makers: Nowruz at Schaberg Branch Library. Find books about Nowruz in our booklist here.


Next, celebrate Women's History Month with programs for all ages throughout March. Our booklists for adults and kids celebrate remarkable women from around the world. Featured events include:



Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month is celebrated in March to promote inclusion and highlight the contributions of people with developmental disabilities. Find our reading list for kids here.


Cap off the month on March 31, when the world observes Transgender Day of Visibility. It is a day to celebrate the lives and contributions of transgender people, while also drawing attention to the poverty, discrimination and violence the community faces. Find our reading list here.

ALL ABOUT THE LIBRARY BOARD

The City Clerk’s Office is now accepting applications for the following vacancies on the Library Board: 1 partial-term seat expiring June 30, 2026 and 2 full-term seats expiring June 30, 2029 


Library Board Members are passionate about the mission of our Library as the learning center of our community and the place where people turn for the discovery of ideas, the joy of reading and the power of information. General responsibilities and duties of Library Board Members include:


  • Helping to inform and review the Library’s strategic plan
  • Serving as a community liaison and library advocate by actively soliciting community input and providing feedback to the public concerning Library policies and services, and topics being considered by the City
  • Seeking collaborative opportunities to cultivate partnerships, raise funds and recruit volunteers
  • Enthusiastically representing the Library at the community and regional level


Library Board meetings are held monthly on the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Downtown Library and begin at 6:30pm. All members attend each meeting and publicly discuss items noticed on the Board agenda. Review current and past Library Board agendas and minutes here. MENSTRUAL PRODUCT DRIVE

Teen girls! On March 10 from 3-5pm, come to the Teen Center for free menstrual products. Stanford Cardinal Free Clinics provides free primary care to uninsured adults in the Bay Area through clinics in Redwood City and San Jose. As part of their commitment to health equity, they've partnered with Days for Girls to help address period poverty by distributing reusable menstrual kits, which include pads and care materials, along with reusable menstrual cups and disposable products. Don’t miss this opportunity to access essential health resources and support menstrual health for all! More info here

Do you have gently used books, CDs, DVDs, puzzles, video games, or albums taking up too much space in your home? Make a difference by donating them to the Friends of the Redwood City Library Donation Event on March15th

How Your Donations Help: Donated books will be sold in our bookstore, with proceeds directly supporting community library events and programs.
