We have received word of the death of

The Rev. John Spann
on February 7, 2022


Pastor John Spann was born on May 31, 1921 and ordained on May 19, 1949. He was the founding pastor of Atonement Lutheran Church in San Diego and served there from 1960 until his retirement on September 1, 1986.

After retirement, Pastor John became an avocado farmer until he was called back to the church for interim ministry until 2005. He served as interim pastor at the following congregations in the Pacifica Synod:

King of Kings Lutheran, Oceanside
Hope Lutheran, Temecula
Christ the King Lutheran, Fallbrook
Bethany Lutheran, Norco
Victory, Chula Vista
Shepherd of Life Lutheran, Lake Elsinore
Mt. of Olives Lutheran, Mission Viejo

Please keep his wife Florence and their children in your prayers.

A service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, March 5 at 2:00 p.m.
