Florence Minor

(1949-2024)

It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of Florence Minor, author of If You Were a Penguin, How to Be a Bigger Bunny, Smitten with Kittens, and other titles. She was awarded, along with her husband Wendell, the New England Independent Booksellers Associaton President's Award for Lifetime Achievement in Arts and Letters. Florence was a vital part of our gallery family and she will be greatly missed.

A celebration of Florence's life will be held at a later date. Details will be posted on our web site here.

A personal note:

Wendell and Florence. Florence and Wendell. Everyone who knew them, knew they were rarely apart—and an equal team in both the books they collaborated on AND those that Wendell illustrated for other writers. My wife, Jennifer, and I were fortunate to have had Wendell and Florence among our closest friends for so many years. Our hearts go out to Wendell, and we will miss Florence greatly. But we will continue to cherish her books, and the many good memories of our times together, whether on the porch of our summer cottage on Martha’s Vineyard, or our many dinners after exhibitions at the Eric Carle Museum, the Norman Rockwell Museum, The Society of Illustrators and, of course, R. Michelson Galleries. Florence is now swimming with her adored dolphins, and frolicking with the penguins, kittens and bigger bunnies in Heaven.
