Shirley Jean Conner, age 81, passed away on March 18, 2023, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She was born on June 3, 1941, in North Carolina to the late Will Conner and Nella Owensby Conner. Shirley is survived by her life partner and devoted husband of 35 years, Pete Kamariotis, and many nieces and nephews who will all miss her tremendously.
Shirley grew up in North Carolina before moving to Virginia and into Virginia Beach. She received a bachelor’s degree from William & Mary in Medical Technology. Although she tried her hand at teaching, after attending Alpha College of Real Estate, she found her niche; and a legend was born. As a REALTOR®, she made lifelong friends and had many repeat clients over her decades in the local real estate industry. In 2011, Shirley was presented the coveted Code of Ethics Award by the Hampton Roads REALTORS® Association in recognition of her demonstrated commitment, knowledge, practice and service in the field of real estate. In 2014, Shirley as the Managing Broker of Prudential Towne Realty’s Lynnhaven office was also named Broker/Manager of the Year by the REALTOR® Association. Both awards she was most proud of and honored to receive. Until her retirement, Shirley guided many agents at what is now Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Towne Realty. She was gratified by her work and shared many times that she was fortunate to have worked with and mentored many individuals who she considered the best in the real estate business.
Shirley loved to grow orchids, and her favorite pastime was playing the slots. She and Pete enjoyed many trips to Atlantic City, Las Vegas, and Dover. Often their gambling excursions were with good friends and resulted in many happy memories. Shirley always had good fortune, and on the way home she would already be planning a return trip.
A celebration of life in Shirley’s honor is planned for family, friends and colleagues.
HRRA extends sincerest condolences to Shirley's loved ones during this time of grief.
