The Rev. Sterlen S. Sheaffer

We share with you the news of the death of one of our retired synod pastors, the Rev. Sterlen S. Sheaffer. Ordained in 1953, Pastor Sheaffer died on January 27, 2021, at the age of 96.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover Street, Carlisle, with funeral services to follow at 1:30 p.m. in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 21 S. Bedford Street, Carlisle. Burial will be in the LeTort Cemetery, Carlisle.

Pastor Sheaffer is survived by his wife Evelyn; sons, Timothy Sheaffer and his wife Teresa, and Thomas and his wife Beverly; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his two sisters, Ruth Hoy and Mary Ilgenfritz. He was predeceased by his brothers, Carl, Clark, Arthur, Harvey, Wilmer, Ralph, and Paul; and his sisters, Dorothy Sheffer and Sarah Ludt.

Scott Weidler

We also share with you the news that Scott Weidler died on January 23 after a lengthy battle with cancer. In addition to the position he held for many years as a member of the ELCA worship staff, Scott is well-known to many for his leadership roles in ALCM, Lutheran Summer Music, the Leadership Program for Musicians, and Music that Makes Community.
