Dear Immanuelites,
I am writing to share news of the death of Betty Bryson, one of our beloved friends at home who has suffered mightily for years and is finally free. She is out of pain and once again able to walk, run, and embrace her son Woody in the eternal realm of God's wider life.
Betty died on Monday, October 17. She was 87, and had lived at Westminster Terrace Skilled Nursing Unit of Presbyterian Homes, where they liked her vibrancy so much they made her the cover girl of their website! Having had a stroke about 10 years ago, she had lost the use of her left arm and was unable to walk. She lived in almost constant pain, and yet managed to smile and laugh with anyone who came to see her. Her mind was as sharp as ever, and she often had a witty retort to offer.
Before her stroke, Betty was a fixture at Immanuel, serving in many capacities. She joined in 1995, and was in the Women's Evening Circle, Women of Immanuel, and Happy Boosters, and was the force behind one of our directory processes. She always kept up with the church, asking how folks were doing, and she read every Immanuelite Spotlight and Recorder. Mike Schultz was her very faithful congregational visitor, and she loved having that regular connection.
Per Betty's wishes, she will have a visitation here in Louisville on Thursday, and then her body will be taken to her hometown of Springfield, KY, where there will be an additional visitation and burial on Friday. Details are below, as well as her obituary, where you can leave condolences for her loved ones.
In peace and prayer,
Pastor Rachel
