In Memory of Pastor George “Joe” Dahl
June 10,1944 – August 12, 2023

George LuVerne (Joe) Dahl was born on June 10, 1944, in Mason City, Iowa to Glenn Dahl, a farmer, and his wife, Evelyn Hanson Dahl. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed at age 15 in Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills, Iowa. Joe, as he was known, graduated from Waldorf College, A.A. in 1964 and Texas Lutheran College with a B.A. majoring in Speech and minoring in Sociology in 1966.

Following graduation Joe worked a year full time at TLC as an Admissions Counselor and then part time at TLC while also a student at Wartburg Theological Seminary. Joe left the seminary after one year to work in the church as a lay person. He spent several years in Campus Ministry (Oxford, Ohio), as a Parish Mission Builder, a youth worker, and educator. In 1972 Joe graduated from Stephen F. Austin University with an M.A. in Public Address. He returned to Wartburg in 1975 and graduated with his MDiv. in 1978. After receiving a call to Grace Lutheran Church in Sinton, TX, Joe was ordained on October 15, 1978. He went on to serve congregations in Clifton, TX, Temple, TX, and Ander, TX, as well as serving as LSST Director of Development in the NTNL Synod. He retired in June, 2010, after completing a call with Vitas-Innovative Hospice Care in San Antonio, TX.

Joe is survived by his three sons: Matthew Aaron, Jason George, and Andrew Glenn.

We remember Joe's family and friends in our prayers and trust that the promise of the Resurrection is true and sure.

In Christ,

Bishop Sue Briner
