In Memory of Andy Nittoli, with a Special Message from Julie Nittoli

For more than 40 years, Andy Nittoli contributed his time, expertise, and tremendous care to the Cinema Arts Centre serving as our technical consultant, making an invaluable contribution to our ability to present film programs and build community around a love for film. Andy died on August 16. All of us at the Cinema Arts Centre feel this loss. Please click here to read more about Andy. As well, we are deeply honored to share the following words from Andy's beloved wife Julie Nittoli:

Andy cared deeply about Vic, Char, Dylan* and the Cinema Arts Centre. He believed in their dream and mission to bring art cinema to Suffolk County. Andy was very happy to use his technical knowledge and skill to support them in any way needed, and at any time.

By the time I met Andy in 1982 he already had an established relationship with the then, New Community Cinema. I was a college student, who worked in the lounge and box office, and Andy attended to the Cinema’s technical issues; projection and audio systems. This was the genesis of our love, marriage and 43 years as a couple.

Andy and I will always be grateful to Vic, Char, and Dylan for their dedication and devotion in bringing the Cinema Arts Centre into reality. Not only did they enhance the local art culture, and deepen our personal growth and intellectual curiosity, but they literally changed the course of our personal lives.

If anyone wishes to give a donation in remembrance for Andy, he would want you to support the Cinema Arts Centre in any way possible, whether through membership, direct donation, or both. They provide, not only entertainment and education, but a sense of community and love.

Sincerely,

Julie Nittoli

Exciting Activities and Programs from the CAC Youth Advisory Board

The Cinema Arts Centre's Youth Advisory Board is a group of volunteers age 14 - 25 who meet monthly to plan and promote special events for young people at the CAC. YAB member Leo Scardina discusses some of the exciting programs the board has planned:

Come See Little Miss Sunshine with the YAB

Hey everyone! If you're looking for a movie that’s funny, real, and totally relatable, you’ve got to check out Little Miss Sunshine. It’s playing at the Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 7:00 PM.

If you’ve ever been on a long road trip with your family, you’ll relate to the drama. This film is about a family on a chaotic cross-country trip so little Olive, played by Abigail Breslin, can compete in a kids’ beauty pageant. Olive is tiny, awkward, and completely unconventional, which makes her dream seem impossible. She wants to perform a dance routine, but despite her confidence, she’s clumsy, uncoordinated, and unpolished. She’s the ultimate underdog, and you can’t help but root for her.

Her family does their best to support her. They cram into a van and navigate endless mishaps along the way. And that’s what makes the movie so hilarious. Everyone in the family is completely flawed but also quirky and lovable. Steve Carell plays the depressed uncle, Alan Arkin is the foul-mouthed grandpa, Toni Collette is the stressed-out mom, and Greg Kinnear is the dad who just wants the best for his daughter. Like any real family, they make mistakes, argue, and fail; however, they also stick together when it counts.

Directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, this indie film was nominated for several awards and even won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy in 2007. The film is an oldie but a goodie because the message still hits today. When Olive chases her dream, it shows that it’s okay to be yourself, to be weird, and to go after what makes you happy even when the world thinks you’re “different” and your dream seems impossible.

And honestly, watching this family get to the pageant is seriously funny. The humor is nonstop, yet there are moments that genuinely touch you. Come to the screening. You don’t want to miss out!

Love movies? Want to help plan awesome events for other teens and members of the community? The Youth Advisory Board (YAB) at the Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington is the perfect place to do it! We are a group of teens and young adults from across Long Island who meet regularly to plan film screenings, special events, trivia competitions, movie marathons and more! Plus, you’ll get cool behind-the-scenes access at the theatre and chances to meet filmmakers. The Youth Advisory Board isn’t only about watching movies and hanging out with teens who share your interests. It also gives you a chance to be creative and bring your ideas to life, and gives you the opportunity to build your leadership skills, bring fun events to the community, make an impact, and gain real world experience outside of your classroom.

As a new member of the YAB, I’ve had the opportunity to help plan a Catching Fire event with a raffle and trivia challenge, screen films for a 48 hour film contest, and I am excited to be a judge for the upcoming Long Island Youth Film Festival November 7th-9th, a showcase that features short films produced by local young filmmakers. In addition, I had fun being a part of the The Street Team, helping to promote events, handing out flyers in Huntington, and posting event information on Instagram. Currently, we are working together to host a Halloween Beetlejuice film screening with spooky treats and fun activities for attendees. And the best part of being a member of YAB: you get a free membership and discounted tickets for movies! Join YAB today!

If you or someone you know is interested in joining the YAB, please contact Ted Cavooris at ted@cinemaartscentre.org

New Pricing to Launch October 1st

Over the past several years, especially post-pandemic, the cost of doing business has increased dramatically. It is vital to our mission to be as accessible as possible, so we have managed this as much as possible through cost-cutting. Since reopening after our extended pandemic shutdown, we have done all we can to cut our expenses while presenting even more programs to our community. We have required ourselves to do more with less and we have delivered. However, the current situation requires us to modestly raise our basic membership prices, which we have not done in nearly 10 years. This increase is vital to our sustainability.

On October 1st, there will be slight increases affecting the following membership levels:

Individual Membership: $65

Dual Membership: $120

Senior or Veteran: $50

Senior Dual or Veteran Dual: $100

If you choose to renew before October 1st at our current pricing, a full year will be added to your current expiration date. This is also a great time to become a new member.

CLICK HERE to join or renew. See all the benefits of Membership HERE.

On October 1st, we will also launch new ticket pricing. Regular screenings for Members will be $8 ($7 before 5pm on Mondays and Tuesdays); while regular screenings for the public will increase to $16.

Members will save 50% - $8 - on tickets to our regular first-run features on our three screens every day, as well as discounts on all of our special events - approximately 500 special events annually!

While the price of Membership will increase slightly, the value of Membership will also increase!

Members are the heart of the CInema and make it possible to deliver our mission every day. Our members recieve valuable benefits, and as a member, you know that you belong to a community that helps make Long Island a great place to live.

Thank you!
