Arturo Casarez Vasquez II, spouse of Jackie Vasquez, Lay Mission Developer for Platicas de Santa Sofia in San Antonio, entered eternal rest on March 29, 2026, after fighting Esophageal Cancer for over a year. He was born an only child on August 16, 1969, to the late Arturo C. Vasquez and Enedina Casarez Vasquez.
As the son of famous artists, Arturo would travel with his parents, Enedina and Arturo I, throughout the U.S. to museums, festivals, and other cultural events as they sold their artwork. After his father’s passing, he supported his mother on her lifelong spiritual journey to becoming the Reverand Enedina C. Vasquez, a Lutheran Pastor. Arturo met his wife Jackie and her three boys (Benjamin, Nathaniel, and Noah) in 2013, and they married on Jan. 31, 2015.
He spent his time between teaching Composition at Northwest Vista College, reading big books, driving his mother to her biblical courses, supporting her as a Vicar for the Lutheran Church and as a member of her Platicás Ministry. He also managed to carve out time to spend with his wife and help raise his three stepsons.
His love for reading extended into his education and career. After graduating from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a master’s degree in English, Arturo began his career which included working with The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center, UT Health Science Center, University of Texas at San Antonio, and he retired from Northwest Vista College as an English professor.
He devoured books, music, and films. His favorite genres spanned a large range from historical literature revolving around the United States Presidents, Wars, to Classical and Old English literature. He even indulged in the fantastical world of Sci-fi.
Arturo loved watching movies and was a big fan of the Star Wars series, The Godfather trilogy, DC Universe and Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Hobbit movies, and Lord of the Rings.
He played the Bass guitar and enjoyed playing in rock bands with his friends in his younger years and in the church band at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church under the direction of Darrin Newhardt and James E. Garcia. Dream Theater, Zakk Wylde, and Rush ruled the soundtrack of his life.
One of his most favorite past times was walking through downtown San Antonio exploring all the new pubs, speakeasies, and restaurant bars. He loved eating out with his wife and enjoying the newest flavors San Antonio had to offer.
He will be loved and missed by his wife of 11 years, Jacqueline Galvan Vasquez; stepchildren, Benjamin Galvan (Jazmine Macias), Noah Galvan, and Nathaniel Galvan; as well as numerous extended family members and beloved friends. He truly loved spending time with his family members, Aunt Josie, Uncle Polo, many cousins, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews.
Arturo was a unique and loving man whose legacy will continue to live on through all who knew him. He is reunited in Heaven with his parents, Arturo C. Vasquez and Enedina Casarez Vasquez.
His celebration of life will be held in June of 2026.
