We remember and honor Charlie Keaney (1941–2026) — a true legend of youth soccer and a cherished member of the SAY Soccer family.
For decades, Charlie devoted his time, leadership, and heart to SAY Soccer, helping shape the standards, values, and culture that continue to guide our game today. His impact reached far beyond the field. Charlie was deeply committed to referee education and mentorship, leaving a lasting influence on referee educators, current referees, and generations of future officials within SAY Soccer.
Charlie believed, at his core, that the game should always be about the players. He was passionate about creating safe, positive, and respectful game environments for players of all ages, and he worked tirelessly to ensure referees were supported, educated, and empowered to uphold those ideals. His steady presence, wisdom, and care for others set an example that will continue to guide our community.
We are deeply saddened by Charlie’s passing and profoundly grateful for the legacy he leaves behind. His influence lives on through every player, coach, referee, educator, and volunteer he inspired.
Our thoughts are with Charlie’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of learning from and working alongside him. Thank you, Charlie, for everything you gave to the game and to SAY Soccer. You will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
