Today, we join the Jewish community, the American community, and the global community in mourning the passing of the Honorable Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a modern American Jewish heroine. At Sharsheret, the loss of Justice Ginsburg, our esteemed Advisory Board Member, on the eve of the High Holiday of Rosh HaShanah, is deeply personal.
Sharsheret's late founder Rochelle Shoretz clerked for Justice Ginsburg in 1998 and shared a strong bond of friendship and respect that continued for years beyond her clerkship. At the memorial service
for Rochelle's passing in 2015, Justice Ginsburg gave a touching eulogy
(minute 12:43) and shared, "I have a large law clerk family...No member of that family was more dear to me than Rochelle Lee Shoretz." The Justice added that each day as she enters her chambers she thinks of Rochelle as she is greeted by a silver mezuzah on her door, the only one in the Supreme Court, and a most meaningful gift.
May the memory of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg be for a blessing as we carry on her legacy in the work that we do every day for all the women of Sharsheret.
