It is with deep sadness that we share the news that our friend Kris McCandless passed away suddenly on March14. Kris was a longtime supporter and volunteer of ITRC who filled the room with laughter and great stories and was willing to befriend and mentor anyone in the ITRC community.
Kris enjoyed nearly 40 years as a geologist both in the private and public sectors, including the last 10 years at the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). He joined ITRC and the Fractured Rock team soon after his employment with DEQ and became of its lead trainers. During his time with ITRC, Kris contributed to several ITRC teams as a subject matter expert, writer, trainer, and was an active member on the current ASCT Update Team. In 2022-2023, he served the Co-Lead for the Managed Aquifer Recharge Team. In 2024, Kris became the Virginia POC on ITRC’s State Engagement Program and played a key role in promoting ITRC throughout the Commonwealth, recruiting new ITRC members and mentoring other POCs.
Memorials may be made to Just One More Dachshund Rescue, @JOMDR / https://jomdr.org or a charity of choice.
