This weekend, we gather to honor, celebrate, and mourn the death of a legend from our community. Mr. Pugh was a family man, businessman, teacher and supporter of the Lower Ninth Ward. He was giving, kind and considerate as well as the owner and operator of Pugh's Body Shop. He donated to the community where he lived and worked. He leaves a rich legacy to his family, church, church members, friends, neighbors and the great city of New Orleans. Sankofa CDC salutes you and all your accomplishments. We will acknowledge the memory of Mr. Pugh with a moment of silence at Sankofa Farmers Market this weekend.
Mr. Pugh was a loving and caring man. He touched the lives of many people with his smile , humor, and generosity. He lived for his family and loved helping friends. His lover for cards and doing body and fender work on them was phenomenal.

We honored Mr. Willie Pugh, Sr. (Body Shop Master at the Sankofa Marketplace of the Lower 9th Ward on our One Year Anniversary held Saturday November 12, 2009 at 12:00 noon along with Antoine "Fats" Domino (Musician) and his brother Percy Pugh (Body Shop Master) (pictured above). Other Living Legends honored on that special day were Jack Duplessis (Living Legend of the Hot Rod World), Herbert Banks, Jr. AKA Cotton ( Body Shop Master), Lloyd Espadron (Living Legend of the Hot Rod World), Truman Guichard (Living Legend of the Hot Rod World) and Joe Landry (Custom Paint Master). The car show was organized by the Untouchables Car Club and youth performances were provided by St. Augustine Marching Bank, Kuumba Institute and Ambassadors for Christ that made the occasion lively and perfect.
