Clean water for God's thirsty children
This Memorial Day,
Help Provide Clean Water for the Families of the Navajo Code Talkers

(Do you know their story?)

During WWII the U.S. military needed a code that would enable communications while protecting operational plans. The U.S. Marines knew where to find one: the Navajo Nation.

Marine Corps leaders selected 29 Navajo men, the Navajo Code Talkers, who created a code based on the complex, unwritten Navajo language. Assigning a Navajo word to key phrases and tactics, the Code Talkers could translate three lines of English in 20 seconds, much faster than the 30 minutes it would have taken other methods.

The Code Talkers participated in every major Marine operation in the Pacific theater. During the nearly month-long battle for Iwo Jima, six Navajo Code Talkers transmitted more than 800 messages without error. Later, Marine leadership noted that the Code Talkers were critical to the victory.

At the end of the war, the Navajo Code remained unbroken.

Today, the families of these same men, along with the rest of the Navajo Nation, lack the basic necessity of clean water.

You can do something about that.

An Opportunity to Give Back to the Navajo Nation
After the war, the Code Talkers returned to their reservation. Today, on that same reservation, 30% of the population lives without running water in their homes. Nearly 15,000 families have no access to clean water for drinking and cooking.

Water With Blessings has received a Challenge Grant for this Memorial Day. If we raise $3,000, an anonymous donor will match that with another $3,000. If we succeed, that $6,000 will translate into 80 more families drinking clean water.

Sister Larraine explains the effort in the video. Please take a moment to watch.
The Memorial Day Weekend Challenge

Due to many factors, including bureaucratic red tape and other hurdles, thousands of Navajo families live without clean water. With your help, we will soon begin to deliver  Sawyer PointONE filters  to the most remote families.

This $3,000 Challenge Grant will match your gifts. $6,000 means that 80 families will be drinking clean water soon!

With filters, buckets, and training on use and maintenance, these families will now enjoy a lifetime of safe water. This is a major challenge, but with our global experience in many difficult places,
we are confident that together we will succeed .
In this February 4, 2011, photo, Leland Anthony, Arizona Representative for Indian Health Incorporated, left, speaks with Navajo code talker Joe Vandever Sr. during Native American Day at the roundhouse in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

One of the few remaining Navajo Code Talkers who used their native language to confound the Japanese during World War II, Mr. Vandever died of health complications on Jan. 31, 2020, in Haystack, New Mexico. He was 96.
Saving Lives With a Filter and a Bucket
Can it really be that simple?

There have been many attempts to purify water in areas with different kinds of contamination. More than 10 years ago we had a few false starts ourselves.

But then we were introduced to the Sawyer PointONE filter. It removes 99.99999% of all bacteria, such as salmonella, cholera, leptospirosis, and E.coli, removes 99.9999% of all protozoa (such as giardia and cryptosporidium), and 100% of microplastics.

With a PointONE filter, a bucket, and a few hours of training, a Water Woman will provide clean water for her own and 3 other families. It is that simple!

And, amazingly, with just regular, simple maintenance, it will last a lifetime.

Please help us put more of these filters in the hands of those who will provide clean water to God's thirsty children.
Join Us for Coffee Chat
If you haven't joined us yet, please give it a try. We laugh, we listen, we catch up on each other's lives. We're there for one another.

Also, we get the latest progress report on how your gifts to Water With Blessings are changing people's lives.

This week we will be joined by Darrel Larson from Sawyer Products, source of the PointONE filter. He will field questions about the filters and discuss the work we do.

Please join us this Friday at 9am. You'll be glad you did.
We believe every child should be drinking clean water. Are you with us?
