Message from Barney Ellis-Perry, CEO | | We’re raising $25 million over the next three years to transform healthcare. | | |
The Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation is launching its most ambitious campaign yet: $25 million over the next three years. This comprehensive donor centered campaign is focused on advancing key areas of tertiary care: cardiology, neurology, maternity, and gastrointestinal health. In addition, we will support vital enhancements in emergency medicine, mental health services, and other programs aligned with our six areas of focus.
So over the next few months you are going to see us celebrating the people who are saying: “It’s in my nature to give.” Their stories speak to the diverse power of local generosity and the impact we can make together. People like Cynthia who you will read about in this newsletter.
Read more and learn how you can join this community of changemakers.
Warmly,
Barney Ellis-Perry

Meet Cynthia
If you’ve attended a Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation event, chances are you’ve been greeted by Cynthia Crawford’s warm smile. A dedicated volunteer and legacy donor, Cynthia gives not just her time, but her heart – welcoming guests, offering kindness, and creating connection wherever she goes.
After losing her husband, Cynthia found comfort in giving back. It was a way for her to remember Larry and honour his legacy, but through that Cynthia received something much greater - a powerful sense of community and belonging. “I’ve received so much just by being involved,” she says. “It’s given me a way to do something meaningful.”
Cynthia's story is a beautiful reminder that giving isn’t just what you do– it’s who you are. Read her full story here.

Seeing Beyond To Save Lives: $2.9 Million Raised For Vital Diagnostic Medical Imaging
We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of our largest-ever fundraising campaign for a single piece of equipment: a second SPECT/CT scanner for Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH).
In just eight months, $2.9 million was raised to bring this advanced diagnostic technology to the Central and North Island—thanks to the incredible generosity of over 1,400 donors. This second machine will dramatically reduce wait times, decrease the need for patients to travel to Victoria or Vancouver, and improve care for thousands across the Island.

Two Little Bakers, Big Impact
Annabelle and Prairie—two young change-makers from Montessori School—took action to help their community. With the support of their classmates, they hosted a bake sale and raised $230 for the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation’s Greatest Needs Fund.
Annabelle, the daughter of one of our amazing ER doctors, and her friend Prairie helped organize, bake, and sell treats alongside their schoolmates—all to help local patients and families.
Big hearts, tiny aprons. Thank you, girls!
