Friends,
I am personally, professionally and spiritually fascinated with conversations, research and speculation regarding the "post-covid church.” Of course, Second B is always at front of mind and heart, and yet we also know that one primary way God moves in our world at large is through local congregations. In 2019 researchers (Pew and Barna for example) were predicting a drastic future for the church in the western world. In some regards this warning escalated in 2020, and in other respects congregations including ours, accelerated adaptations and are now more prepared.
As we gather again in-person and online for worship at 10:45 am beginning this Sunday, February 21 we not only begin a journey to Calvary and Easter, but I sense we also begin a somewhat new era in the life of church. For example, our efforts to connect online are now an assumed reality. Not everyone, probably including my own family, will not return in-person on February 21st. Yet we are ever reminded of one another and the bond we share together in Christ. We worship together in spirit and in truth (in flesh and on screen). We honor and celebrate the decisions you make that are best for your soul and safety.
I ask that you help us as a church grow and learn again to be grace to one another and our world. I don’t have all the answers, but I am certain we are stronger, wiser and kinder together. Help us learn, adjust and serve. This will require deep wisdom and courageous faith— thankfully because of you— I believe there is plenty on hand at Second B.
Peace of Christ to you,
Jake Maxwell

We will resume 10:45 am in-person worship services
during Lent beginning this Sunday, February 21, 2021.
At this time, we will offer one service of worship
at 10:45 am in-person and livestream.
We will offer childcare at 10:45 am, but we will not
yet have in-person bible study at 9:30 am.
As vaccinations increase and risk decreases we hope
to phase in further programming.
