It is with profound sadness that we share news of the sudden passing of our dear colleague and friend, Daniel J. Farrell, CCM. Having joined GSI Executive Search more than five years ago, Dan worked tirelessly on behalf of his clients and was one of the private club industry’s most respected and successful professionals.
Dan’s roots in service to private clubs ran deep. Prior to joining GSI Executive Search, he worked for 25 years as General Manager / COO of several Platinum Level clubs. Most recently, he successfully led the 95th PGA Championship as the host manager at Oak Hill Country Club. Dan’s leadership helped make the Championship one of the most successful in the tournament’s history.
Additionally, Dan served CMAA as a national committee member and chapter board member. During his career, he served as the Executive Career Services (ECS) chairman for both the Metropolitan Club Managers Association (of which he was inducted into its Hall of Fame) and the Connecticut Club Managers Association, assisting over 100 clubs in fine-tuning their governance models and filling senior management positions. Dan also supported nationally recognized hospitality programs as an advisory board member, mentor and guest speaker.
Dan’s commitment to professional accomplishment was exceeded only by his complete and unqualified dedication to his family, friends, colleagues and associates. He was loved and admired as a husband, father, coworker, friend and mentor. His charm, humanity, ultimate professionalism, total integrity and genuine sense of caring will be but one of his lasting legacies to our firm, and to the many individuals in clubs around the country whose lives he touched. We send our heartfelt prayers to his family, and we will miss him dearly.
Visitation for Dan will be held from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. EST on Sunday, February 2 at White Chapel Funeral Home, 197 South Avenue, Auburn, New York 13021. Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 3 at St. Mary’s Church, 15 Clark Street, Auburn New York 13021 with burial following the service, and a reception to follow that at a yet-to-be-determined location.
