We’re Looking for a Few Good Men-tors!

The Student/Partner Alliance, Hudson Catholic’s second largest tuition assistance benefactor, provides both financial assistance and mentoring support to 46 students in the Hawk’s Nest. We are running a few mentors short at present, so are seeking five male volunteers from the school community who have an interest in mentoring a student.

As present plans exist, mentoring is occurring on a virtual basis, with check-ins a few times over the course of the school year. When we are back to in-person meetings, a mentor is invited at least once, perhaps twice a year, to meet in person at a Student/Partner Alliance social event held at the school among SPA sponsors, mentors and students.

As a mentor, you should be willing to lend moral encouragement and share your life experience in advising a young person looking to advance their journey in life. Mentors often help students think through situations and identify options for decisions they are facing, honing confidence in their decision-making.

If you are that person, and can volunteer a small number of hours throughout the year, then mentoring an SPA student at Hudson Catholic may be for you. Please contact Jaime DeLeon, jdeleon@hudsoncatholic.org, Director of Admissions, to express your interest in mentoring or to learn more about the expectations and commitments of a Hawk mentor.

It is often said about volunteers that they give of their time, talent and treasure. Some offer all three, while others can offer more of one than the others. If you believe in the LaSallian tradition of leading a life in service to others, then your gift of time can be of great help to a student.
Alumni Mass of Remembrance 2020
Video Tribute and Virtual Mass

As has been done for many years, the Alumni Association offered Hudson Catholic’s Alumni Mass of Remembrance on Sunday, November 8th, to celebrate the lives of alumni, family members, and friends of the Hudson Catholic community who were called home to God’s loving care during this past year.

This year’s event uniquely aired as a Virtual Mass, filmed in the De LaSalle Chapel of the Brothers Residence. The Mass was celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop of Newark, Most Reverend Gregory Studerus, who as Episcopal Vicar of Hudson County, established residence on our campus this year. Deacon Len Mackesy ’71, who has served our alma mater in this Mass for many years, assisted the Bishop.

The names of our dearly departed Hawk Alumni Family scrolled on the screen for 17 minutes prior to the airing of the virtual Mass of Remembrance. The names and class years of our deceased alumni were read by Alexandra Ruiz, class of 2014, during Prayer of the Faithful.

St. John Baptist de LaSalle, pray for us.
Live, Jesus, in our hearts forever!
