World of Choices: AOLS Members Showcase Careers in Land Surveying
AOLS members recently attended World of Choices hosted events across southern Ontario to discuss career opportunities in land surveying, reaching 40–50 students in each.
The format was very good in that the students could decide ahead of time which career mentor they were interested in meeting, and the rotating groups at small tables allowed for individual time to ask and answer questions.
The results were mixed, with most events generating a handful of students interested in looking into surveying as a career, while many of the attendees were more interested in their cell phones and were not engaged in the presentations, which is unfortunate for them.
The AOLS Marketing and Recruitment Committee wishes to thank the members who took time from their busy schedules to attend and our AOLS staff for sending out the requested swag and posters. Given decreasing membership numbers due to retirement, we encourage members to contact their local high schools to discuss opportunities to meet with students and potential future members.
