To our Coalition Partners,
As we navigate the results of the election and its implications for our sector, I wanted to share a message of solidarity with you. This election was a reminder of the deep divisions in our country. In a time where many are reckoning with these divisions and what comes next, I have steadfast gratitude for each of you and the reminder of where we stand together: in our collective commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of our communities.
I realize that in the wake of the election some of you are feeling profound concern and uncertainty about the implications for your organizations and the communities you care for. I also know that, sadly, this feeling is nothing new. Health and human service leaders in Illinois have faced more than your fair share of uncertainty over the years - from decades of disinvestment, to a budget impasse, to a global pandemic. Through it all, you show up every day and respond to the needs of your communities, in moments where nothing is guaranteed. And while the pressure of this is overwhelming, I am writing to remind you that you are not alone. We stand with you, unwavering and determined to advocate with and for you, so that you have what you need to thrive as well.
Last week, I had the privilege of visiting our community partners in Moline, Bloomington, Vienna, Joliet and Aurora. Those meetings were as heart-filling as they were necessary for me, I now realize. They were a reminder of how vital you are to our state's collective well-being, and what it means to build a community of care, right where you are. I have returned to these meetings over and over as I consider the implications of the election. While we may not know exactly what lies ahead, one thing I know is true - our ability to care for each other and work in community is more important now than ever. We will continue to build community with you, rooted in the belief that the health and well-being of every single Illinoisan is a cause worth fighting for. I promise we’ll be with you every step of the way.
In solidarity and hope,
Lauren
