Today, on what should be a joyous day of renewal for members of our AAPI communities, we have incurred another episode in a story that has become too common in our daily lives. Families In Schools is devastated by the Lunar New Year’s Eve shooting in Monterey Park, which robbed the community of 10 lives, and scarred so many others, in yet another instance of gun violence. We stand in solidarity with all AAPI communities and express our deepest condolences to all those affected by the shooting, and the aftermath, on what should be a day of jubilance.

Saturday’s event is a disturbing reminder of the relentless gun violence that plagues our nation. We need legislation to curb the violence and protect our neighborhoods! Too many lives have been lost and it is heartbreaking to experience our families and children becoming fearful in the very spaces in which they should feel safe and celebrated.

If you are missing a loved one or experiencing trauma related to this weekend’s events, a victim resource center has been established at Langley Senior Center.
