From the desk of Father Tri

My dear parishioners,

This coming Saturday, October 31st, Savannah will host a historic Catholic event, the Beatification Mass of the Five Georgia Martyrs. They were Franciscan Missionaries from Spain who brought Catholicism to the land and ministered to the people in the area that is now between Savannah, GA, and St. Augustine, FL. They were martyred in the late 1500’s defending the teaching of the Catholic faith. Cardinal Frank Leo, Metropolitan Archbishop of Toronto, will represent the Holy Father as Papal Legate and preside over the beatification liturgy, which will take place at the Savannah Convention Center. Father Enrique and I plan to attend and concelebrate this Beatification Mass together with thousands of the faithful from around the nation. We honor these heroic Missionaries, and we ask them to intercede for us to be faithful witnesses of God’s truth and God’s love in our lives today.

We are in the mid-term election. Voting is the right and responsibility of a nation's citizens. It is also the responsibility of faithful Christians to contribute to the common good of society through the participation in this civic duty. We are to build a society that brings about the Gospel values of peace, justice, and charity, upholding the truth and reflecting the love of God for all.

In the Sacred Heart of Jesus,

Father Tri John-Bosco Nguyen

Rector and Pastor

Join us for coffee and donuts this Sunday on Sacred Heart Way after the 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Masses, sponsored this week by the Children's Choir.

If you attend the 5:00 p.m. Mass on Sunday evening, be sure to join us for sandwiches and wine on Sacred Heart Way afterwards and get to know one another! (Sponsored by our Young Adult Ministry, open to all)!

Guidance for Faithful Citizenship

The Georgia Catholic Conference is pleased to share this resource with Catholics in Georgia as a guide for discernment and reflection as we prepare to vote. This guide is not only a “how-to,” it is also a “why-to.” It covers what is at stake in our elections this fall, key information to know and the reasons for our obligation to mindfully participate in the political process.

All Souls Day and Novena

On Monday, November 2, we will commemorate All Souls’ Day and honor the memory of all the faithful departed. This annual observance reminds us of the enduring bond we share with our deceased family members and friends

and invites us to remember them in prayer.

Masses will be celebrated at 8:00 a.m., 12:10 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. (bilingual).

We also invite you to include the names and intentions of your deceased loved ones in our All Souls Novena of Masses, November 2–11. May our prayers bring comfort and hope as we entrust those who have gone before us to God’s eternal love and mercy. You may use the envelope included in your packet, or visit our parish website to add your loved one’s name online.

Bashor Men's Night Shelter Ministry

It’s time to mark our calendars for the upcoming Sacred Heart volunteer evenings at the Bashor Men’s Homeless Shelter, located at Central Presbyterian Church across from the State Capitol Building.

Our volunteer dates for the coming season are all Sundays:

  • December 6
  • January 10
  • February 14
  • March 14

If you’re new to this Sacred Heart ministry, here’s how we serve. In addition, four volunteers serve as overnight hosts, staying at the shelter space in Central Presbyterian Church.

Mass Intentions

Visit: sacredheartatlanta.org/mass-intentions/ to view current and available intentions.

A mass intention is a specific request for a Mass to be celebrated for a particular person or purpose.

Common reasons for a mass intention include:

For the deceased: To pray for the repose of the soul of a loved one who has died, believing that these prayers can help them on their journey to heaven.

For the living: To pray for the healing of a sick person, to offer thanks, or for other personal needs and concerns.

For special occasions: To commemorate an event like a wedding anniversary, birthday, or other significant life moment.

If you would like to schedule a Mass Intention, click on Request Mass Intention to view available dates and schedule your Mass Intention online. Masses that show in green are available to schedule. The schedule is open four months in advance.

Altar Flowers

Flowers may be ordered in memory or in honor of a loved one. The arrangement will be displayed at the altar from the Saturday Vigil Mass through the 5:00 pm Mass on Sunday. If no other events require special flower arrangements, the flowers will remain during the week. The intention for the flowers will be listed in the bulletin. Two arrangements are available each week at the cost of $100.00 each. (You may purchase one or both arrangements). Names will be listed in the bulletin.
