SOLEMNITY OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS

The Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is tomorrow Friday, June 12. Masses will be at 12:10 pm and 7:00 pm. Archbishop Hartmayer will preside at the evening Mass, during which he will lead the Archdiocese in the Consecration of the United States to the Sacred Heart for the nation’s 250th anniversary. A reception will follow. Come celebrate our parish feast day!

Consecration to the Sacred Heart

O Most Sacred Heart of Jesus:

You know the longings of our hearts,

and you desire that we enjoy friendship with you.

From your pierced side, you have poured out the wellspring of life, for which we thirst.

Your heart burns with a love for all people to return to a right relationship with you.

We celebrate the abundant gifts you have given this nation, founded on the self-evident truths that our Creator has endowed all people with the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

We make reparation for the offenses against you and against human dignity that have taken place in this nation.

May our hearts be united to yours, so that our families and communities enjoy peace and happiness; may broken relationships be reconciled, injustices repaired, and the wounds of our land be healed.

May your holy Catholic Church serve as a sign, pointing all people to your infinite love.

O Desire of Nations and Center of History, we ask you to bless these United States of America.

Who live and reign with God the Father

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Father Tri John-Bosco Nguyen

Archbishop Hartmayer has appointed Father Tri John-Bosco Nguyen as pastor and rector of the Basilica, effective July 20. Monsignor Jowdy will return to retirement on the same date.

Father Tri is a native of Vietnam, where the Franciscan priests and sisters at his local parish were an early inspiration to him. He arrived in the United States in 1993.

Tri graduated from Seton Hall University with a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education and theology and earned a Master of Arts degree from Georgia State University in applied linguistics and in teaching English as a second language. He taught and counseled young people in various schools in the Atlanta area before responding to a call to the priesthood.

He studied with the Salesians of St. John Bosco before applying for priestly formation with the Archdiocese of Atlanta and attending St. Vincent Seminary in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.

Father Tri was ordained to the priesthood on June 2, 2012. He served as parochial vicar at St. Peter Chanel parish in Roswell and at St. Brigid parish in John’s Creek, before being appointed Director of Vocations for the Archdiocese in 2018. Since 2021, he has been pastor of Our Lady of the Mountains parish in Jasper.

Please keep Father Nguyen in your prayers as he prepares to begin his ministry among us.

Father's Day Novena

It is our custom to celebrate a Novena (nine days) of Masses on behalf of our Fathers, Grandfathers, and Father Figures. It is proper to remember those who have died and to honor those still living. The Novena will begin on Father’s Day (June 21) and continue for nine consecutive days.

The Second Collection this Sunday, June 14, is for St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP), an international Catholic lay organization dedicated to serving the poor, suffering, and marginalized through person-to-person service. The mission of SVdP is to serve our neighbors with love and respect: delivering help, hope, and pathways to self-sufficiency. Monetary donations made by Parishioners and visitors at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus allow SVdP volunteers — known as Vincentians — to provide direct aid, including food, clothing, housing assistance, and financial help for bills, to neighbors in need.

Please note: The June envelopes are missing a Sunday 1st Collection envelope for June 14. Please feel free to use our parish feast day envelope (June 12) as your regular offering envelope for that weekend.
