From the desk of Father Tri | | |
My dear parishioners,
The changing colors of the leaves signal the changing of the seasons. November also marks the closing weeks of the Church's liturgical year and is the month when we are especially invited to pray for the Souls of the Faithful Departed. There is a time for celebration, a time for growth, and a time for preparation for eternal life. There is something beautiful and wholesome in living our lives according to this sacred rhythm.
The foundation of our belief in praying for the dead is the Communion of Saints. In Christ, we are one communion, what St. Paul calls the "Body of Christ." Within this communion, the faithful on earth are united with the blessed saints in heaven and with the souls undergoing purification before entering into the fullness of union with the Lord.
As Christians, we are called to remember and pray for the dead. This is one of the spiritual works of mercy taught by Sacred Scripture and the Catholic Church. We believe the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is the Church's highest and most important prayer. In the Eucharistic Sacrifice, Christ's prayer is offered for both the living and the dead. We unite our prayers, sacrifices, and acts of charity to His perfect offering. Through our communion with Christ, we are renewed in our communion with one another and strengthened by a love that even death cannot destroy.
Let us live this communion with faith and love. Let us pray for the faithful departed by offering Masses, performing works of charity, and making sacrifices for their benefit. This rich and beautiful communion leads us toward the eternal life promised by Christ.
In the Sacred Heart of Jesus,

Young Families are invited to gather Sundays in the double classroom downstairs during Faith Formation classes. We recognize that raising a holy, joyful family in the modern world is both a sacred vocation and a daily adventure. Young children not currently attending class are welcome to come with their parents! We look forward to seeing you this Sunday!

Join the women of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus for two presentations by artists Kathy Rennell Forbes and Cathy Ehrler. Each will share her artwork and personal reflections on how spirituality inspires her creative life—and how using her gifts becomes an offering of gratitude to God.
Come enjoy their art and stories, and reflect on the gifts God has placed in your own life. You don’t need to be an artist to be inspired!
Sponsored by the Basilica's Council of Catholic Women. No fee, but we do ask that you RSVP.

ONE SETBACK CAN CHANGE EVERYTHING.
As rising costs push more families to the financial brink, one unexpected expense can quickly turn into a crisis. Your generous contributions to the November 8th Second Collection will provide our SVDP Conference with the resources to respond quickly and offer vital assistance to Neighbors in need—providing food, clothing, and shelter while helping them regain stability and work toward self-sufficiency.
Thank you for your continued generosity, support, and prayers. Together, we can help families weather life’s unexpected challenges and find hope for a more stable future. Ready to get involved? Contact Ruth Gates: reatx@yahoo.com
