My dear parishioners,
I celebrated the first weekend Masses with you last week and it was a great joy! I was especially delighted to see the diversity of backgrounds and age groups, and to see the great mix of parish members and visitors present at the celebrations. What especially impressed me was the congregation's prayerfulness and reverence, as well as their participation during Mass: people stayed to sing the entire Closing Hymn at the end. That is impressive!
After each Mass, the ice-cream truck encouraged people to stay and hang out, talk, and get to know me and each other. It was a joy to see little kids running around and young-adult friends catching up after a busy week of school or work. I would love to see more of these kinds of opportunities for our congregation to build community among ourselves.
I can’t stop feeling grateful for the blessings that I am walking into at this Basilica parish: the interior beauty, especially after the renovation, the warmth and passion of the people, the number of ministries, the history of the parish over the years, the dignity of a Minor Basilica, which is an official Church of the Holy Father in the Archdiocese. Thanks be to God! Let us continue to worship our Lord, grow in our relationship with Him, and renew our commitment to serve others around us in the name of Christ.

Georgia Martyrs to be beatified October 31, 2026 | |
The Most Reverend Stephen D. Parkes, Bishop of Savannah, is pleased to announce that the beatification of the Venerable Servants of God Pedro de Corpa and his Four Companions – commonly known as the Georgia Martyrs – will take place on All Hallows Eve (October 31), 2026, in Savannah, GA. Cardinal Frank Leo, Metropolitan Archbishop of Toronto, will represent the Holy Father as Papal Legate and preside over the beatification liturgy. Out of the handful of beatifications to occur on American soil, this will be the first in Georgia and the first in the South.
“Their beatification will be a date of great significance for the faithful within the Diocese of Savannah and the Archdiocese of Atlanta,” said Bishop Parkes. “The year is also noteworthy, as these Franciscan friars will be declared ‘Blessed’ while the Catholic Church honors the 800th anniversary of the death of their order’s founder, St. Francis of Assisi, in 1226.”
The martyrs’ beatification Mass scheduled for Oct. 31 in Savannah is changing spaces within the Savannah Convention Center to welcome roughly 12,000 people instead of the 2,000 originally planned. The move comes as Catholics across the country and from Spain are expressing interest in attending, including some with historical connections to the martyrs. The relatives of one martyr may also travel from Spain.

Registration for our 2026–2027 Faith Formation Program is now open for students in Kindergarten through Grade 12, including those preparing for the Sacraments.
Classes will be held Sundays from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., beginning Sunday, September 20.
Our Faith Formation Program includes Sacramental Preparation for parish children preparing to receive First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion, as well as Confirmation Preparation for eligible youth. The Confirmation Mass is scheduled for Sunday, April 25, and First Holy Communion Masses will be celebrated on Sunday, May 2.
Important Confirmation Update: The Archdiocese is transitioning to sixth grade as the typical age for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. As part of this transition, students in Grades 8, 9, and 10 who are eligible will participate in Confirmation preparation during this program year.

A mass intention is a specific request for a Mass to be celebrated for a particular person or purpose.
Common reasons for a mass intention include:
For the deceased: To pray for the repose of the soul of a loved one who has died, believing that these prayers can help them on their journey to heaven.
For the living: To pray for the healing of a sick person, to offer thanks, or for other personal needs and concerns.
For special occasions: To commemorate an event like a wedding anniversary, birthday, or other significant life moment.

Altar Flowers
Flowers may be ordered in memory or in honor of a loved one. The arrangement will be displayed at the altar from the Saturday Vigil Mass through the 5:00 pm Mass on Sunday. If no other events require special flower arrangements, the flowers will remain during the week. The intention for the flowers will be listed in the bulletin. Two arrangements are available each week at the cost of $100.00 each. (You may purchase one or both arrangements). Names will be listed in the bulletin.

The August 9th second collection will be for the benefit of the local St. Vincent de Paul Society. Our ministry is committed to serving neighbors in need through personal relationships and direct assistance offered with dignity and respect. SVdP plays an important role in living out Christ’s call to love and care for those who are struggling in our communities. Today, rising costs for food, housing, transportation, and medical care are creating tremendous hardship for many working families throughout Georgia.
